Exactly how I see it, I figur the mor money I make the boss, and the more efficiently I do it. The more likely I am to work when others are not. Am I right?

Just do your job, do it correctly, and don't worry about the naysayers. If you try and work the way someone else does, it just irritates ya and isn't Worth it.
mje Thanks this. -
If your getting paid by the hour then I can understand the vets being upset as they are used to running casual and collecting a check. By you doing what you do shows that the owners other drivers are just milking the clock to make a check.
niw if you paid percentage or by mile then it really shouldn't be anyone's concern on how fast you get the job done compared to othersmje Thanks this. -
Yes we do get paid hourly but the boss gets paid ton mile on this job. And our deal is we kinda scratch eachothers backs hes there for me when I need him and I make him alot of money lol

Wow, I can't believe it, this really hits home for me too.Back in the late '90's, I got a union job hauling bread, and was the "new guy". Several runs were drop and hook, some were peddle runs to self storage units, and the little trucks would pick up the bread there and take it to the stores. I always brought my own lunch, never took a break, and always got back an hour faster than the old timers. The bosses loved me, and asked me how I did it, and I told them. One day, an old timer came up to me and said, "I see you are getting back earlier than the rest of us on such and such run, are you taking your breaks?" I thought he was kidding, but he looked me right in the eye, he wasn't kidding. He said, "we fought hard for those breaks in the strike of '96(or whatever), YOU TAKE THOSE BREAKS!" He went on to say, "I saw you talking to the boss, what was that about"? I said, nothing, just wanted to shoot the breeze. He said, "You don't talk to the boss. You tell the union steward your problem, he talks to the boss". I couldn't believe it, but he was serious.
Another time, our trucks were governed at 63 mph, one night on the ILL tollway, I came up fast on one of our trucks, almost ran into the back of him, he must have been going 45 mph. I tried talking to him on the CB, I thought something was wrong, he never answered me.
Moral of story, ttc, these guys are professional milkers, and I kept doing my job faster than these schmo's and the bosses loved me, but the other drivers never talked to me again, and it was uncomfortable, and I eventually quit, because I didn't like the pressure, and that was a shame, because it was the best trucking job I ever had. Bottom line, all those old timers got laid off and the company went with outside carriers, so who was the idiot there? -
Yeah its interesting you metiined unions I think this guy is ex union. Now I get unions are great for the workers but they destroy companys and work ethics in my opinion. I dont like them. And people wonder why everything is outsourced to china......

Yep, E is E and W is W, you can go round and round with people about unions. It was just so different for me, as I had never been a union driver. and like I say, it was a great job, hourly pay, super benefits for my family, good equipment, driver rewards program. These schmuks just didn't realize how good they had it, and still complained, and pissed and moaned to their steward about STUPID stuff. Well, like I said, the company got rid of all the union drivers and went with outside carriers,(at a substantial savings, I might add) these union guys cut their own throats, but they just didn't see it that way. I could have worked for the outside carriers doing the same job, but I had moved on by then.
