manual or automatic transmission:biggrin_2556:??Which would you prefer for a tanker driver?if manual why?wouldn't that be more work with the gear shifting and having the truck jump with liquid surge moving back & forth through your truck.Wouldn't automatic be a much easier and smoother ride with a full tank.Wouldn't have to worry bout the truck jumping as you shift from 1st gear to the smooth 5th gear

I used to drive a water truck for the oilfield. I had an 18 but some of the other guys had automatics and they hated them. They "over" shift up and down. I never had much surging but our tanks were baffled. Not sure if your food grade or not.

I drove both auto and manual pulling liquid tankers 48 states and I'll take the automatic any time.

That's how i was feeling after driving a manual truck.I would think a automatic would be the best way to go you don't have to worry about the truck bouncing around when shifting gears i drove a 10 speed and just from 1st to 5th gear is the worst the truck don't stop jumping when i shift my gears up until i get to 5th then it feel as if I'm driving an automatic it feel way smoother.i will like it to feel like that through every gear that's why i think automatic should be the best way to go for tanker drivers (P.S i only been driving a 10 speed manual for 2days)and from the feeling i would take a automatic any day also

Given that the "automatic" is actually a manual with the computer "floating" the gears, the difference is in how smoothly you can shift.

Pretty quick on judgement if you have only been driving a manual for 2 days, just like the guys that hate automatics after only driving for 1-2 days. Give it some more time, you will get better at it.

Even doctors practice for years before they can go out on their own and they only kill one person at a time. (Some will say that doctors practice their whole career)

On an ultrashift it is actually true. the clutch disengages only below 850 rpm. all of your shifts will occur above that rpm level so, shifts are done with the clutch engaged.
