Any of you End Dump O/O willing to talk about profit margins? Can a guy take home six figures after all expenses owning his own rig? I understand a lot would depend on expenses and I have control over some of this but really would like to know how many of you think it is worth it?

where you located? I pull tanks as an o/o but pulled end dumps as a company driver. I will say this as a company driver making percentage and not getting paid for deadhead I never made less than 60k a year and most years I was over 75k. but I will say that I ran hard and heavy and 8-9 hours of sleep in a 5 day work period was normal for me. also the rates in the end dumps from my experience was very cutthroat. if I had ran legal though I would still have been over the 50k a year. I do know guys who hauled coal and did real good but coal has been down thanks to the EPA. it can be very rewarding in end dumps and you can go broke also real quick in that industry. to be honest if was to go back to end dumps I would not with my own authority but would lease on to a company like U.S. Bulk or Page but that's my preference

    Mile High Trucker Thanks this.

but I would say if your equipment was paid for and in good shape you could clear 6 figures

I am in Denver, CO. There is a lot of construction going on out here and a lot of end dumps as well. I am having a lot of fun driving in this industry but am looking for something real steady that I can do for the next 20 years as an owner operator. One of my fears is that when winter rolls around the O/O are the first ones to sit. Well I am just going to keep on what I am doing as a company driver and watch the industry for a while. "Market Research" if you will. I appreciate you response...Safe Truckin!

You won't do very well in Central Illinois. Rates are terrible because of companies like Beelman and McLeod, they work on thinner margins than an o/o can work on.
