And ^THIS^ is exactly what is wrong with trucking and our society in general. The reason most of us who've been around a long time do things the right way is that once upon a time, if you didn't, you caught plenty of flak from the old hands. Shame is a powerful motivator, but in this touchy-feely age, it's dang near a capital crime to say anything to someone that might put a dent in their self-esteem.
Try calling out a driver on the CB for tailgating; there's ten idiots with your attitude that jump down my throat for daring to call out a "fellow driver." Sorry, but some DA who thinks it's ever ok to be 4 foot off the back of the car is going to hear about it every time. And the pile on used to be on them!
Do you know what being a professional is about? It's about behaving in a manner that cast a good light upon your profession, and protecting that reputation by calling out those who fail to meet that standard. You want to know why we aren't "Knights" anymore? Go look in the mirror and think of all the times you saw unprofessional behavior and didn't say a word because "It wasn't my truck."
And I'm out, before I get really stirred up!
drvrtech77, Oil Jockey, teddy_bear6506 and 5 others Thank this. -
When is the last time you have been to any warehouse and they asked you to back up so the trailer is not square with the dock/plate or to back up so your tractor is sitting in and blocking the next dock? It don't matter if the guy was a rookie or a old hand, do it right and give a little consideration to others. You have probably been to a lot of the grocery warehouses around town here or Rivergate or any other place with side by side docks and everyone knows that you don't block the dock next to you.Knucklehead619, Hammer166 and drvrtech77 Thank this.

He's driving for Werner for one. A company that spent God knows how much money advertising on their trailers they use elogs. Something like "no more paper logs" like it's a good thing. Yeah, I want to drive for them!
Oh and no experienced driver with an ounce of self respect would EVER park that way.kw9's rock Thanks this. -

on the stirred up.
"Knights of the Road" is a happy little myth. When exactly did this magical time exist? 1930s? 1940s? 50s? 60s? Before Deregulation? After it? I drove in the 1990's. Drivers were what they were--some "good," some not so good, some competent, some careless, many were new, many were old hands (and some of them probably should have been taken off the road).
Who decides that everyone else is doing things wrong? You? Some CB Rambo? If you want to run around telling other people that they're off key, and that "they're what's wrong with society" go ahead. There never was a "Leave It To Beaver" world except on television. Calling out a tailgater is the right thing to do, but inserting yourself into every situation that doesn't sit well with you--shaming, as you call it--is just butting in. -
Yea but do you park that way because you have to, because they ask you to or because you are inconsiderate? I bet that's also at the same dock.

i figure poor parking rude behavior reflects on all of us all the time
i mind every ones business because it is mine
we are in this mess of our own making by not policing ourselves
and allowing stupid behavior to manifest itselfHammer166, buzz1670, kw9's rock and 4 others Thank this.
