January 1, 2013 Central States pension fund was at 47.6% down from 58.9% two years prior to that.

 

Mine is western states but its managed by William C Earhart. Not all teamster pension plans are managed well,some of the money is just plain stolen. Im just glad I have something,unless your a real old timer here at Walmart your going to struggle later on.

Developing a true 100% employer funded pension plan for us would go a long way over here and might help attract the traditional best of the best,instead of the best with 3-5 years and the ability to fog a mirror.

But like others have said,Bentonville is a cheap bunch of back stabbing SOB's

 

If I had 31 years to go to retirement I would be looking at something else. If ABF is around in 31 years it will not look anything like it does today. More purchased freight and shorter runs with more VIAs for what is left of the road board. Check out the rail roads in your area, BNSF is hiring but they do not run very far into the east.

 

Look at your pension and see if it can be transfered to a private fund. Your banking istution should have a department that handels this. If anything move it into a secure anuity then you can take your time to look at all the products that are avalible to you before making a decision about investing. Before moving anyplace I would see what my options are with the money you have already invested in your future. ABF or the Union might have a penalty.

I would disregard the negative comments about WalMart. I have been driving for 25 years and have had several very good jobs but WalMart pays the best and treats me better than any job I have ever had. The older drivers complain ALOT but I think they forget what it is like to work at other trucking firms. Most older drivers at my DC complain because you actually have to work. They don't give you something for nothing. With that said I would wear nice jeans and a collared shirt. Study up on your pre trip and know it forward and back. If your pre trip and road test goes well they will send you for a drug screen and physical. After that they do your background check which you need to make sure is accurate. Then you get the call offering you the job and a start date
