I am currently serving active duty in the marine corps with 20 days till I leave the service. I have my CDL class A with tankers, doubles/triples endorsements. At the end of June I will be moving to Ohio where I have been talking to a recruiter and all I have left to do is the drug screen and press work screen. From talking to the recruiter I have been trying to find out a rough reasonable estimate of what I will bring home weekly. I know that is the million dollar question in the industry because it is all based off the driver these days. But the best figure I have came up with is 1800 to 2200 miles weekly. They say I will start at .31 cpm and if that's the case I'm looking at 540 to 660 weekly before taxes and incentives. Does this sound about right to any of you that are running that area or any of you on the regional side? I would appreciate any and all feed back about this or what I should be expecting starting out. I have been on the forums alot here recently and reading a few posts from drivers starting out but none really covered how accurate their pay had been starting out. I just want to make sure that with my income, though I know it changes weekly, and my wife's income that we will be able to find a place within our means and not be struggling so much with the transition. I thank you ahead of time for any of your feedback and look forward to joining you all out there on the road.

540-660 should be very do able. I run Midwest regional and my median paid miles are about 2,500 working an average of 5.5 days a week.

Once you get your feet under you the miles are definitely there. Welcome aboard and good luck.

Thank you gentleroger. Do you have any tips that I should keep in mind for when I hit the road? I know the training is fast paced and alot thrown at you in a short time but hopefully I can keep up with the important info and learn the rest as I go. Also what tools would you recommend me to have once I start out on my own?

While in training - pack light. You're probably going to Indy for orientation so you can either pay to do laundry at the hotel or do it for free at the OC.

While with your TE - take ownership of your training. That week is like a buffet dinner - how much you get depends on how much you take. Ask questions, take the initiative to try and do things on your own.

Tools - flat head screwdriver, multihead screwdriver w/hex bits, hammer, crowbar, vice grips, broom, needle nose pliers, and leather gloves to start. Then a socket/wrench set is nice but not necessary.

On the personals side - good bedding, a 12 volt cooler, and a lunch box cooker will get you off to a good start. I also carpet my truck.
