Remember, we're under CSA now. It doesn't matter who's at fault, it still shows up. But I wouldn't be concerned about that accident at all, you were stationary in traffic and got hit, nothing you could do. Any recruiter or company who can't accept that, likely isn't worth working for anyway. Just my two cents.
"semi" retired, 70s_driver and WillGlen Thank this. -
Hit up hire right, they report on DAC's. I get mine every 6 months, in paper. They're only supposed to do it, once a year according to their own website, but if you call in and politely ask for it, every 6 months, they'll do it without problems. I keep tabs on mine, for the sake of keeping tabs on it. I also get mine on paper, via the mail. You can get it digitally, though, through a PDF. PDF is a 1-2 week waiting period, mail can be between 2-6 weeks waiting period. It is free, to receive your DAC through Hireright. You will have to fill out personal information to confirm your identity in order to recieve it. Be prepared to give out your SSN, DOB, Lisc num, ect.
They've also sent an MVR and a record of all background checks preformed on me, with my DAC report; which is why I prefer to get mine on paper.
Outside of that, you can petition your state to report your MVR, and CSA is simple enough to get. Can't fill you in on the latter, I only know mine is completely clean, so I've never had to worry about it.CondoCruiser and WillGlen Thank this. -
Our safety manager is adamant that there are no non-preventable accidents. In his view all accidents involving a driver could have been prevented.
I have played the incident over and over in my mind. The only thing I can think of is that I should have allowed adequate following distance for not only the vehicles in front of me, but for the vehicles in the other two lanes, preparing for a wild driver to need to rapidly cut in front of me. But then she likely would have slammed on her brakes right in front of me. In a way, I'm glad she hit me from the side and I did not have to avoid a worse situation.
We are big enough targets that if they want to hit us, either intentionally, or unintentionally, they will succeed.
I am mixed about the view that all accidents could have been prevented. I do believe that it is the right frame of mind to have because it really makes you think about many variables that might otherwise go ignored because we think "there was nothing I could do."tinytim Thanks this. -
Tell that to the #######, that hit one of our 48' framless dumps on Monday, when he came off an exit ramp doing 70-ish MPH, and smacked right into the drivers trailer tandems, driver couldn't do a ###### thing. Slowing down would've made it worse. He was fully loaded running a dd13 up underneath 79,000 lb's. Did you expect him to slam the gas, and get out of there? Naw, that engine is neutered.
Kid almost got himself killed, when his tiny sedan rolled up underneath those tires. Really dumb, exceptionally stupid; he deserved that Darwin award.WillGlen and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
Maybe probably not, depends on the company. I would have a copy of the crash report, in PDF form. You have to mention it in your app. You could note you have a copy you would be happy to provide on request.
Carriers that still have a/few ex-drivers in management understand how it can happen....but insurers have determined that those involved in a crash, regardless of fault, are statistically at increased risk of being involved in another within 12 months, so that may factor if you're planning to jump ship in the immediate future.
I would leave out that "I could not have prevented it in any way" part. Based on reasonable assumptions regarding your account of the event, I think you coulda.
Regardless, Safety does not want to hear phrases like that one. They want to hear you weren't at-fault, but also that you learned what you could have done that might have prevented it.
Think about it. Someone might ask, the job you want may hinge on that answer alone.
Nobody wants a driver, and a rookie at that, who was involved in a crash and all they learned was 4-wheelers are stupid and likely to do anything. Every dispatcher knows that.WillGlen Thanks this. -
I think I'm on the defensive too much. I think saying as little as possible about it, coupled with humility is a good approach from an interview standpoint.
Thank you kindly. -
I didn't mean to imply that all accidents were preventable or that you could have prevented yours. However, if you have string of not at fault accidents then that may show something about your driving (or where you drive) even though you were not found at fault. A driver can put himself in high risk situations as we all know.

Id get an accident report on it. I had a minor (15 mph)accident in Jan 2013 and although I wasn't charged with the accident, it showed up both on my mvr and my DAC report, probably my PSP as well.WillGlen Thanks this.
