Been enjoying a lot of time at home over the last couple weeks, last week due to needing to get my PM done and this week because well it is just so nice here in NC and I felt like it. I was planning on being home for just a restart but I ended up deciding to work on some other projects and spend some time with my family. Small paychecks of course, but sometimes I forget that there is more to life than trucking. I'll squeeze one last load in before pay cutoff on Monday night and all will be good. Hope everyone has been staying busy (or enjoying some time off too!)

How does the choice program work as far as taxes go? How much schould I be putting away, how do I determine how much etc.

I always put back .20 of every $1 for my taxes. If you file quarterly, you come out cheaper as well. With all the deductions, you will probably have some left over at the end of the year, but I have always found it to be a safe cushion. It never hurts to put the leftover into your rainy day fund after you do your annual taxes.

Also get a good truck driver accountant, they'll find you stuff you'll normally miss.

Is tax based on total revenue? And not just on what you take home?

I pay 25% of each weeks settlement. I just cut the check for the 2nd quarter estimated taxes. Ouch...

Taxes would be based on earnings, not revenue. Net profit would be taxable as a generic answer. Of course, depending on how your company is set up (sole proprietorship, corporation, etc) will change how you are taxed. I am familiar with accounting in general but one thing I didn't get too familiar with is tax accounting lol, so I won't go into further detail.
