First off I am a Newbie and am looking for the best advise on a new trailer. My 3 options are as follows:

    1) 40 ft triple axle Low Boy with drive over fenders

    2) 40 ft Deck over low pro with 12k air ride axles, tandem duals and hydraulic dovetail

    3) 40 ft deck over with dovetail and Monster Ramps, Again Air Ride.

I know the deck overs weigh much more but are much stronger, and cost more due to options. The Low Boy is less expensive but has 3 axles with elec brakes, no disc avail, leaf springs and equalizers as no air ride avail and a not as strong frame but the trailer is significantly less weight. One concern I have is that the first jobs I have lined up will be unloaded by Union fork Lift operators who I am told don't care much about equipment. If they are anything like some of the guys I used to work with, that is worrisome.

I have seen the trailer Gary recommends which is option 1, but looking for more opinions

    Thank you.

I'm gona beat everyone else to it and say, buy the trailer for what your gona haul. From what I've heard and read in the forum talking about Gary's company is that the trailer he recommends has a lot of twist when loading. I would say no to the lowboy, personally I haven't seen any hotshots with lowboys, except for guys running for Gary. You want to stay low on weight so you can carry more so no hydro dove tail. A 35' deck over with 5' mega ramps won't let you down.
Oh also about the lowboy, there will be times that you'll have to make a delivery where a lowboy has no business being. What are you planning on hauling? General freight? And what truck will be pulling it?

I have a short term load set up hauling steel racks - 5000 lbs total weight but 45 ft long so 1 on the neck and 4 on the deck (9 ft each - 1000 lbs each) good for a few months after that general freight I have a 3500 Ram dually for now 2012…Megacab short bed. I have a friend that needs his small excavator moved occasionally as well but that is low pay local friend stuff.

I started to thing about the Hydraulic Dove and the winter salt and slop messing with all the pivots and hydraulic cylinders……. And for flex on the Low Boy I was concerned with that as the factory said have to load properly or it will bend or break….. The big trailer has a torque tube and under frame bridging.

Ya I have a torque tube on my 40ft. Didn't have one on the 30ft but was never a problem. Since you'll be using a dodge you won't be needing air ride or air brakes on the trailer. You won't have a way to air them up. Unless it's one of the new air ride dodges but even then I don't think they have a air hook up for trailers. Lots of trailer manufacturers do the deck over neck. I'm going to add it once I get a larger truck. If your going all out ask them about sliding winches for the trailer. Bolt on winches can be a pain sometimes.

The Air Ride is a self contained unit on the trailer so no air needed from the truck. The brakes are electric over hydraulic discs, also self contained on the trailer. As for the sliding winches I am guessing you keen the sliding tie downs on the side. I don't want those because of the issues with salt and corrosion. I would rather use the individual ratchet straps .

Wow I really did not know about the air ride. Now I need to get my trailer done up. Especially those mega ramps, I have a center pop up but I can't drive up mini excavators. Nice trailer, good move sir.

I picked up my trailer last Friday. I did not get any pics yet as it needs a bath. I went to the local scale and they were closed so I don't have an exact weight yet, but the vin sticker says trailer weight 9600 lbs. I can say it is different then my 40' Featherlite race trailer (32' floor + 8 ' gooseneck bunk) the extra 8' is noticeable making turns. Have to figure out the Electric / Hydraulic Disc brakes. The trucks controller is supposed to be compatible but trailer brakes don't seem to work until full voltage not the progressive like controller is. They did almost put me through the windshield the first time I slowed quickly as I had too much power to them. WOW...

If you really want the lowboy and air ride is a must then its possible with PJ.
You can also have hydraulic disc brakes. These extras are very uncommon on this type of trailer and they will most lightly first tell you it can't be done but it can, just add $$$$.

Unless your hauling avation loads / equipment there's not much call for it though and in that case your truck would need to be air ride also.
