    BigRigTex,

I went to the FFE Driver Academy and had a very good experience. I haven't heard much good about the companies you mentioned. Good luck to yoy, enjoy the trip...

If CRE had the best Training in the World, I think it would still not be worth going through them.

Apply for some trucking company schools then go with one and don't change your mind.

Millis Transfer - Burleson, TX - $50K per yr. avg. pay

Southern Refrigerated Transport - furnish hotel room, 3 meals per day, bus ticket to get there.

    Prime Inc.

Pick one and go for it.

Trish in SC and BigRigTex Thank this.

I used to drive I stopped about 4 years ago, and did not renew my cdl. I have years experience but I'm looking to start over fresh as if I never drove. Would something like a DAC hurt that? I'm gonna go through one of these training companies if possible...

Prospective Trucker: "I want to get my license. Should I go to: A. CR England, or..."

    Experienced Trucker: "B."

I know nothing about Stevens, and still recommend them over CRE.

I would give Prime a call. Of all the starter companies out there, they seem to treat their drivers the best. Company trucks are no more than a few years old, have APUs and inverters, and they pay 42 cpm to start. Be sure to bring your A game, since they expect the best, and are quick to cull the herd. Remember that you are on a job interview from the time you pick up the phone until you sign your I-9 after getting your license, and you'll be good.

I went through the Swift Academy in Richmond, VA, and highly recommend them. (Going through Swift Academy will *not* commit you to Swift.) The Richmond staff is proud of their pass rate (95% first time, when I went through), and Swift does NOT do the testing. You *WILL* know your stuff by the time you graduate, and you WILL work for it. (PA students go to Richmond.)

Regardless of who you go with:

Be 100% truthful on all the paperwork. By the time you go to class, they already have all your records in hand (criminal, DMV, and such). A "lie of omission" will get you kicked out, even if what you omitted would not. Similarly, don't volunteer information. If they ask for all tickets in the last three years, don't list the one that was three and a half years ago. If they ask you about it, simply say it wasn't in the time frame requested.

    Give everything they ask for;
Don't give anything they don't ask for.

Thanks for all the helpful posts, gonna apply to prime

Does anyone know if you can take the truck home? Cause if not, that's gonna be a problem, as I have no car

Taking the truck home depends entirely on the company. Most allow it if you are not within a certain distance of a company terminal, and you have a safe/legal place to park the truck (with permission, of course).

If you want to park your rig on the street in front of your house, you may need to get a letter from your local police chief stating that doing so is legal.
