How far back does a DAC report go?
-
Theres a lot of speculation on that but I can tell you from my experience, I still have a 15 over speeding ticket on mine from 2003 and they refuse to remove it.HanktheTank Thanks this.

GPS sometimes I agree with you about things but sometimes you push too hard. Why don't you tell us why you didn't prevent shoving that 4 wheeler into the barrier? Celebrity I think it was?

Hi 70s, BINGO! You couldn't convince me otherwise, it stays in an archive somewhere for EVER!
HanktheTank and 70s_driver Thank this. -
Yeah, I know, I think it's a character fault... not to suggest that somehow makes it not my fault.
Short answer: Off-tracking. I reacted as fast as I think I could have from up front, the trailer kept going L for a second.
EB 70 in PA, construction zone, SL 50, velocity ~50, daylight, clear and dry. LE; prevalent in the preceding miles.
Sight lines to the rear were limited by roadway curvatures/my trailer. Regulatory sign: "ALL TRUCKS USE LEFT LANE" goes by.
I check traffic and signal L. Small platoon of 70+ mph traffic (that are never in anyone's way, thanks to velocity!) following at 1 vehicle-length flies into view and past. Then another, then another. It must have been 2 minutes I couldn't change lanes, and I'd had to abort 2 attempts. I'd spotted the Celebrity following me at ~3 feet, I guess he couldn't change lanes either.
Finally, an obviously clear opportunity arrives, I start moving over. Instead of waiting 5 seconds letting me clear the R lane, he (apparently floors that aged and anemic beater) and goes to pass.
In his defense, he couldn't see jack ahead other than the lower portion of the rear of my trailer, probably missed the truck sign and assumed I was just passing slower traffic, and my signal had been on a while, long enough he might reasonably assume by mistake.
I chuckled and thought "Really?!", turned back R, trailer kept going L. I figured he would have backed off since it was obvious to me he hadn't a 1% of a chance in hell of not getting squished if I had continued. I look back in the mirror expecting him to have backed-off, but there he is, my tandems trying to push him over the Jersey barrier.
My mistakes that could/might have prevented it? I should have expected him to try to pass. Duh. I should have cancelled my signal as I waited for traffic to clear. Duh. I was anxious about clearing the R lane, I didn't want a ticket for circumstances that were beyond my control as I tried my bestest to comply with the law.
Epilogue: Soon came upon one of those 5 acre pull-offs. I pull over, he follows. I contemplate beating him senseless as I wait for LE to come by and see what we might be discussing, but he's apologetic, doesn't want to report it. There wasn't a scratch on the trailer or the wheels, he only got touched by the tires, they show minor scuffs.
I say, fine, lemme see your license and registration. You say that now, you might change your mind in 10 minutes, decide to report it and I get cited for leaving the scene. I scan those, and write up an agreement. He signs, doesn't want a copy, doesn't want my info. As he leaves I grab my little P&S digital camera and shoot his departure from the driver's seat.
Turned out it wasn't his car, and his NJ license is expired by ~2 years.70s_driver Thanks this. -
What is it they say? We live and learn? I guess as long as we are doing that, its about all we can expect from life

Good thing you did choose to report it though. I do agree sometimes the law isn't fair, sometimes it doesn't even make sense, just have to do what you feel you need to do and hope it works out for the best?Last edited: Jun 2, 2014
