you place the hook in the top unit, run the chain down by a spool, bring the chain under the rub rail, around another spool, and place the second hook on the other end of unit. you then take the binder and hook to the chain underneath the rub rail and tighten. they wont give paperwork and release the load until its done that way. one chain and one binder under the rubrail
and as far as dummy straps and not tightening them, that means they will flap and any beating of the paint from that means you have just purchased yourself a a/c unit.
So I was put OOS today...

We have our own "special ed" folks in here already (as evidenced by one posting in this very thread), that pull flats. No more needed thank you.
If you insist on being stuck at the bottom of the food chain, then brag about it, go right ahead. I think I saw a container with your name on it somewhere.....

On this topic...
If a flatbedder does not know that not going trailer to trailer on securement cuts the chain/strap rating in half, then he needs a new job IMHO.
Going from the load to the trailer with one of my 13,000 1/2" chain and binders, gives me 6500lbs of securement This is assuming the trailer point is rated for that much, which on my RGN's isn't a problem. It really isn't brain surgery folks.
My wife just said she has heard me say "screw 'em" when talking about shippers trying to tell me how to secure a load with nothing extra on it. If it isn't legal, they can take the crap off my trailer and find some bottom feeding outfit's driver to take it....
MartinFoxcover, rockyroad74, 281ric and 1 other person Thank this. -
So if the shipper mandates that you secure it an illegal way cant you sue them for the ticket, fine, and loss of income from that? They are the ones responsible.
-
Yeah, but who is finally and ultimately responsible for the load and it's securement? The driver.
I personally do not expect any office or yard fool to know the regulations better than me, and I act accordingly!
I know some shippers try to tell us what to do etc, but it is our butt on the line, not theirs. This is why WE need to know the laws that apply more than anyone. The OP rightly got put OOS due to load securement, so no sympathy from me unfortunately. Families get killed at worse, due to an under secured load, and the best case scenario is that we all get stuck on an interstate for a few hours while we wait for emergency response to clean up someone else's mess due to lack of knowledge or lazyness......
In over 23yrs I have yet to get a warning or ticket for load securement. Asked questions by DOT etc? Yes. Tickets or warnings? Nope.
Just my .02

What's bad about the a/c places is there is no reason to only use one binder per chain like that. Another binder isn't going to damage it. Why fish fish a chain through the spools like that instead of attaching it to a stake pocket or pair of spools?
What if Barny isn't happy about the magic shippers papers and decides to find something else to 'work' on? No thanks, not for a chiller. I think the fight should be with the shipper on these units as there are other options for securment. -
lol, the securement wasn't necessarily, do you think York aka Johnson controls hasn't been over this securement in their legal department ? -
and we all know what opinions are like. everybody got one , just like a rectal opening
-
you could use two binders, but they have to be under the rub rail.skellr Thanks this.

did you know as much in your first 6 months of open deck as you do now?? I would think not, it seems many seem to forget they had to learn themselves also.
everyone of us once hauled our very first load.
