But nowadays, you see a truck broke down on the shoulder and nary a TRIANGLE is seen. They put on the 4 ways and hit the sleeper. Just asking for a visit by the friendly trooper. Guess these guys think it is too far to walk to put them out correctly.
How do you log breakdown time?

The last time I put mine out they were run over and destroyed by big trucks in about 30 minutes. I did break down in a bad spot though. So bad I jumped the guard rail and a ditch to get away from the truck in case someone hit it.cc tanker Thanks this.

I think this would fall under the safe haven catagory. Legal or not, its not safe to stay on the side of the road longer then you have to. Note the reaosn for goign over 14 on log and explain to dot if you get pulled over.Lux Prometheus Thanks this.

there is NO safe haven movement in the regulations. Trucker myth
-
That might be the 'intent' but not actually the case

Then there SHOULD be... -
There are a lot of things that .... SHOULD BE....unfortunately such is life.
-
Hence the need for the trucking community to be HEARD...loud and clear.

OK I know what others say but here is the thing, I assume you are broken down on the side of the road waiting for some service to get to you - it has happened to me a few times.
YOU are sitting in the driver's seat of the truck and not in the sleeper.
YOU are on-duty/not driving - period.
Here is why.
You are responsible for that truck and load at that time. It doesn't matter if you are moving or not, you are still on duty because you are still working.Shaggy and Lux Prometheus Thank this. -
Local driver hourly:
I log it as: On Duty not driving. No way am i going Off Duty, Baby sitting employer equipment for extra time to working week and whatever happens , screw that non sense, OT after 8 and 60 i'm done. Logged as is. It's not a life style. It's a job for me. Not a stranger playing with the coloring book.Last edited: Jun 8, 2014
