Have a mack dump and 2 weeks ago front drive axle passenger side was leaking , pulled off wheels replaced seal and both inner and outer bearings because bearing were pittied.. ran the unit for 2 weeks and noticed seal is leaking again? any ideas what may cause this, could the new bearings be going bad ?

I had a dump truck business for 25 yrs and most were macks with 18lb front axle 58lb rears, four things come to mind, did you change the races, if not that's one problem, did you oil up the seal before installing it because if its not lined up correctly you will cut it, is the hub tight enough? or you could have a bad seal.

Pitting means you caught it in time, did you clean it out completely and make sure no flakes were still left?

Check the bearing journals also Eaton axles are good for wear i have had to have several welded.
Also as stated above you may have messed up the installation. And or didn't have a bearing cup seated completely.

Did you check spindle where seal rides on it for damage?. Did you use really fine crocus cloth to polish spindle?. And finally did you get seal square in hub?. Don't forget bearing end play should be set with dial indicator at .01-.05 thousanths of an inch. Also be sure vent is clean

Check bottom of the spindle for wear where bearings ride.. I replaced both spindles on my front drive axle for that very reason i.e. wheel seals leaking

Update, pulled it apart and the hub was little loose beat up the seal the new bearing when replaced was not torqued to 200lbs then backed off to insure the bearing was seated properly..

Improper installation will kill you everytime. Its always good to check manufacturers torque specs and procedures if your not 100%.

    Glad it wasnt major.
