Some people just want to mash the pedal and go. Fine for company drivers and all, but I know from what I've seen from my dad and other buddies who are owner ops, that's not a good fuel saver and is real rough on the trucks. Slow and steady isn't bad, but I do agree that you should get as close to up to speed as you can before getting on a highway, otherwise it gets real dangerous fast.

The company I work for purchased a used 2007 IH with a C-15 twin turbo, and 10spd. Not sure what it is rated at right now but it is by no means impressive. I've driven 3406E's that would pull circles around it. I just delivered a 312 Cat excavator (28,7000lbs) to Baltimore, MD from Huntington, WV with our Challenger RGN (tandem axle), and was lucky to top any mountain crossing I-68 at 38-42 mph. On flat ground it will top out at 78mph at 1850 rpm "just as a general idea" but falls flat pretty quick. Maybe I'm just having to many flashbacks of big cats and cummins from yesteryear......
okiedokie Thanks this. -

I don't care how much power I have, everybody will pass me pulling away from a stop light. Slow & gentle is how Dad taught me.
gpsman, Battle Born, SHO-TYME and 2 others Thank this. -
I apologize for my ability to read.
False dilemma. Trucks have been entering highways at the speeds trucks enter highways as long as there have been trucks and highways. The general public recognizes only 2 speeds at which a truck may be operated, too fast or too slow.
If highway merging speeds were a safety issue insurers would demand all trucks run 600 hp engines, or they put no more than 10-15K in the box.SHO-TYME Thanks this. -
There you go with that kangaroo court again Holmes. You're making the assumption that being easier to drive stop light to stop light implies unsafe driving. Paraphrasing Samuel L Jackson, you're making an ##### out of you and umption.
The statement is true. A powerful and responsive motor is easier to drive in traffic and stop light to stop light.
So highway merging speeds aren't a safety issue? In this day of texting and cell phones. You think it would be just as safe if we were all running 318 Detroits? -
you jokers just haven't drove one of those twin turbos with the ecm tuning like it should be. -
and those guys usually aren't paying for the fuel

The 04 mbn will be ok. It won't be great but it's fixable. I have a 2000 Pete that had a 2ws and now had a mbn in it. The mbn has a narrower spread of power than the 2ws. It feels slow to me but on hills on cruise it walks away from 470 Detroit's and n-14's rated at the same hp so it can't be that slow

So the 04 c15 is not a 6nz?
I'm hoping to be able to look at it tomorrow so I have not looked closely at the engine yet. Was thinking a single turbo would mean it was still a 6nz
