From a week or so, my AC (Freightliner Columbia) suddenly starts blowing warm air and under the hood, smells like rubber from the overheated belt. If switched off after 15 min on again, it is ice cold. Is this AC compressor going bad or something else?
Weird AC problem

CK. the belt ten.er may not be keeping your belt tight, ck. back side of belt for ridge being worn off?
-
2 belts and 2 tensioners replaced 80 000 miles ago, maybe I have to put new tensioner and belt just for the AC?baha Thanks this.

but gauges on. run a/c and watch everything what happens when it blows warm.

My unprofessional guess is the pressure gets too high and causes the belt to slip. Several things can cause this. High pressure switch, engine fan not kicking on, overcharged, among other things. The best way to tell is to hook up your gauges to see what the high-pressure is reaching.

After speaking with an AC technician, my problem probably is in the ac compressor clutch, it is magnet and after 200k miles, will engage when cold, but will not reengage when is getting hot. That is why I have ice cold air for 30-40 min and then warm. If I switch off for 15 min, it is ice cold again. The problem can be solved if you replace the compressor (comes with new clutch) or if you are handy enough, you can try to remove a few shims from the clutch, on light cars, this can be done even without discharging the freon. It will not make the compressor new, but will give you an additional 50-70k miles on the clutch. I am going to try this on my truck, there is nothing to loose, if I brake it, I will need new compressor anyway..... But if I succeed - will get 50-70k out of my AC for free.

you won't get 50 - 70 for free. gotta pay for the parts.
