The Warn Act means nothing here, it applies to companies still in business doing layoffs and plant closings, not bankrupt companies that fold due to lack of money.

It is sad to hear that so many folks will be losing their jobs. This is Jevic all over again. Good luck to all the New Century drivers. This may seem inappropriate but does anyone know what happens to the equipment (trucks/trailers) I know a few folks including myself who are in the market for used trucks and trailers.
-
It's true. My husband was working for them when they closed the doors. No notice.

Will probably be auctioned like jevics.

He knew about it. I'm guessing he was emptying out and heading back to his home terminal.

The equipment they owned was old as ######. Their newer equipment was leased. If your looking for 2006 Kenworths with auto trans and over 800k then you have plenty to choose from. The trailers all have patches on them except for some of the newer refer units or western freightways trailers. But again the newer stuff is probably leased. Just saying.joseph1135 Thanks this.

I worked for two companies that shut the doors. Both times recruiters from other companies showed up. One company got about 50 drivers that way, but all but one driver left that company within 2 months. Anyway, they set up recruiting offices in motels beside the terminals.
Old timers will remember Poole Truck Lines; they were desperate for experienced drivers and not one single drive went to work there. The main reason was the guy that processed the applications was a jerk and the most rude guy I've ever met at a trucking company. Will never forget the guy, he had a Hawaiian hula girl tattoo on his forearm. It was common for a driver to hand him an application and without even looking at it would throw it in the garbage can and loudly say, "We can't use you!"Last edited: Jun 13, 2014

That's why I post so much about always having a backup plan, because you never know what may happen. The drivers don't have any inside info as much as some of them want you to think they do. The drivers that have a backup plan will be in orientation Monday morning with a new company.48Packard Thanks this.

This angers me to no end. there is no way, NO WAY that they did not know this was coming weeks ago but they sent the drivers out anyway! i get so sick of truckers getting screwed over and over with nothing done about it. there should be somekind of law protecting drivers when a company leaves them hanging like this!!!
VegasfanNJ Thanks this.
