Nor is it convincing
The Sons-0-Chester created their own Department of Corporate Damage Control to complement their Department of Insecure Security and Simulated Containment and both are burnin' the midnight oil researchin' stealth technology, --- at least that's the rumor from their Department of Bait & Switch. But one never really knows with those guys.
By the way, ---- an interestin' factoid some may not be aware of, ....... but, ....... would y'all believe that The founder of C.R. England & Sons, Mr. Chester Rodney England, married his sweetie back in 1916. Her name was Maude Knight.
Sound familiar?
Two sons resulted from their union, Bill and Gene
Meanwhile, in 1990, four cousins: brothers Randy and Gary Knight and brothers Kevin and Keith Knight founded a Phoenix, Arizona based Big truck truckin' company that they called Knight Transportation. The four cousins worked for another Phoenix, Arizona based Big truck truckin' company. Y'all mighta heard the name of that company a few times before, But if anyone tries to tell y'all that the company actually contains three names that combine. "NotSo" does not belong in front of Swift Transportation.
Randy Knight was even a part owner in Swift. But Jerry Moyes bought Randy's interest.
The name "Swift" (Transportation) was purchased from a descendant of the Swift Meat Packing family when the Moyes family bought the truckin' assets of Swift & Company. The three Moyeses and Randy Knight grew the business.
The Knight family and the Moyes family called Plain City, Utah home. A farmin' family that also lived in Plain City back 'round 1896, added another member to their family that year when their son was born. Chester Rodney England. By 1920 Chester was Big truck truckin' in a Model T. In 1940, Chester bought a used Kenworth conventional sportin' diesel power, and a used 35 foot trailer with a mechanical refrigeration unit that wasn't reliable.
Chester offered the first ever 72 hour coast-to-coast run. Robert Gould was the first driver that Chester put in a new 1959 Kenworth with a nose and told 'em not to come back 'till he got thar first. The east coast hadn't seen a Kenworth yet. Robert Gould became Chester's first east coast terminal manager. Rumor has it that Robert's nose appeared to have turned medium brown around the same time frame. One can only guess what caused that to happen.
Back to Plain City, Utah, where in the 1940's Carl Moyes was a Big truck truck driver for C.R. England. Then, in the late 1950's, Carl and his sweetie, Betty, started a small Big truck truckin' company of their own right thar in Plain City. They called their company B & C Truck Leasing, and after their son Jerry graduated from Weber State University in 1966, they relocated their company to Phoenix, Arizona.
Carl Moyes and his two sons, Ronald and Jerry, formed the company Common Market, and that company became Swift.
When Carl Moyes assumed room temperature in 1985, Jerry bought out his other two partners. In 1988 Swift bought Cooper Motor Lines, then went public in 1990. In 1991 Swift purchased Arthur H. Fulton Trucking. Swift purchased 11 different motor carriers in the U.S., includin' M.S. Carriers and 100% ownership of Trans-Mex of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. :smt028
OH!
Almost slipped my mind.
Central Refrigerated is another Big truck truckin' company under the England umbrella.
Off hand, I'd say those clans from Plain City, Utah that grew up together in that small farmin' town, managed to put together truckin' empires that all share the same thing in common. It boggles my mind when I think about the influence those clans have in the Big truck truckin' industry now-a-daze.
When folks opine that the mega big truck training companies are all the same, I used to question their reasonin' abilities. As it turns out, those Plain City pals just might have enough power and influence within the Big truck truckin' industry to affect which direction the industry takes on it's way to the future.
Those who think that the Sons-0-Chester don't have a clue how to run a truckin' company and wonder how they can stay in business, ............... I think it's time to re-think what'cha used to think you thought. :smt017
Ya reckon. :smt025

Good read. Please allow me to help you out.
Central Refrigerated was and is another Big truck truckin' under the Swift/Jerry Moyes umbrella. Central was from a fellow Utah resident down the road from England called "Stinky" #### Simon. Simon was public and good friend Jerry Moyes was a shareholder on the board. With the Simon offspring at the helm Stinky #### hit some rough times. California was suing Stinky #### from a crazy driver running a Simon truck into the state capital. Utah was on his case for tax evasion and was suing also. Good thing, good friend Moyes moved one of his relatives into the chairman position at the Simon Company. It was decided that the best thing to protect the Simon assets was to move them to another company so the suing States could not confiscate them. Only thing, Jerry's Law firm Scudder advised that the assets can only be protected if Simon filed bankruptcy. So that is what they did. They used the name 'Central' from the Central Freight company that Jerry just 'acquired' and formed a new company Central Refrigerated to buy the assets from Stinky ####. Stinky #### had no assets to award any state, and Central Refrigerated was formed.
Jerry just recently cashed out Central Refrigerated to Swift. Selling to Swift allows Swift claim to fame as the 'largest truckload carrier' to continue despite loosing freight while other companies are growing.
After selling Central Refrigerated to Swift, Jerry leveraged a loan against the majority shares he has in Swift. So I wonder what Jerry is doing with all the money?
As mentioned Jerry also weaseled his way into owning LTL carrier Central Freight. Central Freight was part of the Viking/Roadway group. Viking went the way of FedEx and became FedEx Freight. Roadway got bought up by the YRC people. Central was previously a employee owned company and was afraid of going the union route so they looked to Jerry for help. Of course Jerry would help. With North American Truck lines money, Jerry bought himself another company and used the name to house the Simon Assets that his law office was delivering him.
Similar tactics allowed him to buy Digby dry and own the controlling share of Navajo. I think now 100% with Digby Jr. as just a figurehead.
Pride is the other England company you must be thinking of. Jeff (I think) England made himself the black sheep of the family when he decided to start his own 'premium trucking company.' Basically he thought he could make good money shipping beer which the England family's Mormon religion prohibited them from doing.AfterShock, jldilley, zentrucking and 1 other person Thank this. -
ThanX, and I've been informed it's very possible that I'm beyond help. But thanks to the marvels of modern electronic science, --- which allows me to have already read what'cha wrote so I already know how good it is, --- I encourage your helping me out so, by all means, please carry on, ........................................
By golly TMB, I couldn't resist readin' that again, and ya know what? I think it was even better the second time around.
Thank you sir.
When the subject of my writin' has anything to do with the Plain City Pals, I refrain from readin' what I write 'cause it frightens me. While our attention is diverted by bein' force-fed a diet consistin' of HOS changes, electronic logs, and a convoluted scorin' system, among others, the Plain City Pals are busily operatin' quietly under the radar assemblin' the framework for their dynasty that'll dominate the Big truck truckin' industry and all the pawns within it.
Think of the awesomeness of that kinda control.
Think of the powah vested in he who controls the industry that, if y'all got it, brought it.
I can imagine Dan, Son-0-Chester, England, --- former Chairman, --- self appointed Grand PooBah from on high, Top Dawg of a Shared Dictatorship. Randy, Gary, Kevin and Keith proclaimed The Good Knights. The Moyes Boys, Jerry and Ronald, ain't too Swift, but they serve a purpose which comes in handy from time to time........... especially ol' Jerry's knowledge of the laws, ...... and how to navigate around them.
I wonder if Chester, Maude and/or Carl, in their wildest dreams back in the day, could have foreseen where Big truck truckin' would take the clans from Plain City?
From the outhouse to the penthouse.
But I digress, ....................................................................... again.
My bad.zentrucking and Toomanybikes Thank this. -
So that explains why I dropped a trailer or two for Central Ref at the Central Freight yard in Dallas.
Also, Pride, Central Ref, and CR England are literally in each other's backyards up in West Valley City. Like right next to one another. There is/was a Gordon drop yard right next to the Central (now SWIFT) terminal, they connected to the Morman Trucking Mafia too?
Sorry to derail the thread, just curious.
For the OP, sorry to hear about your trouble's... hopefully you guys can find something decent to move along with.

Sounds awful. Glad I'm staying away from CRE and believing all the negative hype. Thank your husband for his service.
Had to laugh though...asking permission to use the bathroom...sounds a little outlandish...the last people I can recall asking to go to the bathroom were my 1st Grade teacher Ms.Chia ( Call me sometime, I've grown! ) and my SDS during BCT...I prefer the smoking hot teacher though...( Seriously! Call me! ) -
And usually from a less than 10 post PR wonder.
I've seen many ... many CRE cheerleaders through here, hit and runs, and even a few who got "spanked" - saw the light, and don't touch CRE threads anymore.
Despite and details, the evidence to steer clear is overwhelming at this point. -
....hey driver that wasn't nice besides that alot of us know how CRE operates with lies and deception ,this wife has more credibility then the whole company ,not to mention her husband served this nation in the highest regard to protect guys like you and me and even the scum bags at CRE ....tell ur husband to he has a job already ,just hasn't found it yet ....try LTL companies like ,Holland, old domion,yellow,roadway,sala...or a few more ,they put him to work the dock for awhile and work him up to yd dog and then into the truck ....that way he can be home everyday with his beautiful wife and wresling matches with his babies ,eat your good cookin and that mushy stuff wives do to their husbands.....god bless yaToomanybikes and Moving Forward Thank this.

Oh my! I wish I had read this post before I let them buy me a bus ticket to SLC. I think I will call them Monday morning and tell them to get a refund for that bus ticket because I won't be getting on that bus after reading this!
Stile and Western flyer Thank this. -
Hey noneya, don't just "think" about calling to cancel on Monday, make sure you do it! If you don't, and actually decide to give CR England a try, just remember you were warned. As countless others have illustrated on this website, CRE is at the absolute bottom of the barrel for how they treat drivers. There are much better options for anyone looking to get into driving a truck, and all you have to do is a little research. It won't be handed to you on a silver spoon, but all the tools are here IF you're willing to pick them up and do some research. Good luck with your decision.Toomanybikes, Western flyer and AfterShock Thank this.
