Our LTL company has done this in the past. I run for Reddaway. Our LH will stay why? Cause OTR guys are stuck in their ways of not running nights. O/o will run it hard but ALOT of Otr guys can't hack it and will pull out of our yard and drive for 2-3 hrs and shut down for 10. While dispatch is wondering where they are at. Our stuff HAS to get there unless weather or break down. OTR guys aren't reliable enough like we are. This has been tried here and failed miserably. Only time we use them is being short handed. USF operates in regions so we can offer next day delivery freight or 2-3 day freight. So our stuff is pretty critical to get there. They've found that L/h drivers are important. Not going anywhere anytime soon. Old D operates like this as well.

Wow, I hit 66k but I got a bid most of 2013 so I lost a run a pay period but I get more time off. This year I'll hit 70k+ on my bid and next year it'll be 80k on my bid even with -15%. No union dues, no health insurance payments. Get sat-sun off one week and sun-mon the next. Of course coming in on the morning of those days. Not a bad gig at all. I'm staying til the wheels come off hopefully YRC gets their stuff together.

fair enough, i just have bad feelings about purchase transportation in ltl freight. i dont agree with what happened with upsf, and its an invitation for other companies to use it even more....

You make a lot of money. I don't have my calculator handy, but that,s a lot of dough for 10,000 miles a month. You gotta admit the vast majority aren't making near that kind of money. Most new drivers looking at learning here will start out around .34 a mile.

Yeah, LTL pays you hourly for other then driving. Each trip I make .25 for fuel, 1.5-2hrs for waiting for my load and if I need repairs on my trailers I get more hours until it's done. My hourly is 18.06 per hr too. So on top of 5500 miles every two weeks I get on average 8-12hrs of hourly pay on top of my mileage .4614. Plus I get $70 every two weeks for layovers, I do 5 every two weeks. For me it averages 2700 every two weeks and I'm not topped out yet. LTL basically pays for everything you do. That's why you can't base LTL pay on just mileage. I've only been with this company for 2yrs so I don't have a lot seniority. Almost all LTL has dropped their Linehaul requirement to 1yr now. Shoot Saia is offering 5k sign on bonus .48cpm 20hr and they are to me better then any Otr carrier. It boggles the mind why ppl go Otr. I wouldn't do Otr unless they paid more then LTL. Being away from home and paid less doesn't make sense.

Probably the 12-14 hour days every day working non stop with 10 drops a day in crowded cities fighting traffic day in and day out. I couldn't do it.

Radman you are right they pay for everything you do.Right now at Several terminals in Texas and Oklahoma we have $10,000 sign on bonuses because the Market has gotten so tough to keep drivers and the Oil field work is right around the Corner in Texas!!
