How much is too much for a used APU?

How much did you pay for Onan + roof AC UNIT? Who did the installation ? Some people say roof Ac can be mount on flat top sleeper ONLY, but I have seen some on hi rise sleeper too.

 

Around $6000 for all the hardware and install. A Rv shop my family has used for years did the install.... after all it takes a lot of trust to let someone cut a hole in the roof of your sleeper. I've seen it don't to petes with the 70' Kw's and pretty much anything with a big enough flat spot on top of the sleeper.

 

$6000 is not bad, I purchased a Truck with tri pack installed on 2000 hours only. The way I am using the APU - I can't spend more than 500 hours per year, so if the Onan life is 4000 hours = 8 years, good enough for me. The thing that is more important for me is the noise level of the unit, the ability of the generator to run even when the truck engine is running (very important - THIS IS YOUR SECONDARY AC), the power output of the inverter that comes with the Onan ( with the termo king I have only 1800W power and is not TRUE SINE WAVE) True sine wave invertors let you run anything - even complex electronics. I paid $400 to replace my invertor with a TRUE SINE WAVE, because my esspresso machine didn't work, my induction counter top stove, nor my bread machine.


Do you know what is the power output of your Onan? I wish a generator with a 5000W output (not peak, continuous power), outlets of 12V DC to jump start your truck. With that much of a power you can cook and have your AC on MAX, have a beast sound system, SAT TV, anything .....

About the noise level, termo king is noisy! Some people say, you have to make a special frame and mount the AC Radiator with the fan away from the back of the sleeper, but steel APU engine is noisy. The AC vents are under the bed, so only cools down, not the second bed. One more thing tri pack AC is not powerful enough for 120 degrees outside, with this temps I have to start the truck AC.

What about the Roof top AC? Can it cool the sleeper at 120 outside?

 

I run in south Texas and it keeps me nice and cold. They were made to keep a 30+ foot rv comfortable it handles my 70' sleeper great. 120v 63a and quiet! google Cummins QD6000 gen set for all info. The downside... forget about a warranty. Installing these items on a cmv voids them. The upside most, if not all Cummins dealers service them. Also the space under the bunk for the circuit breaker takes up very little room. I love having my 110 outlets in the truck and the generator fits in a nice stainless toolbox on the frame.

Also, the roof air is a Coleman Mach 8 with heat option. They run a little over $1000 and kick out 15000 btu. I'm no tech wizzard but I know that means I sleep under the blankets in the summer.

 

Point being they must be installed correctly or that gasket will leak. The drain has to be correct also. Coleman 15,500 will fry or chill a 70" bunk house no problem.

not all apus are like thermoking. I got a dyansys with a 6500 watt generator, alternator and a separate dometic heat/ cool unit, wired in to block heater, and 110 volt outlets in the bunk. only tied into the trucks fuel tank also got the shorepower option also. 8500 installed and warranty . set the thermostat and it might run 15 minutes an hour when stopped, so far in 2 and 1/2 years 3400 hours, same engine as tripac. also installed my own inverter to run tv and small accerories without running apu for 110v, I use the apu for microwave and my keurig coffee maker

 

Nothing like the smell of a fresh loaf in the oven.

 

You got me man! I will have two eggs over, bacon and fresh bread! And not to forget my fully automatic espresso machine, Starbucks is not even close.....
