Was your experience with Schneider that bad? I'm asking because I will be graduating from school soon and I was thinking of driving for them.

Do you really think that guy worked for Swift, Schneider, Werner, PAM, JB Hunt, etc etc? He's obviously just talking out of his posterior about those companies. Personally, I wouldn't go with a company that's constantly flirting with bankruptcy (USA). At least companies like Swift, Schneider, Werner and JB Hunt can actually keep their heads above water financially.

LOL! They've already made their offer to me and I'm definitely not going with USA.

Schneider is definitely a solid choice as far as starter companies go. It might not be the best option over the long term for everyone but I'd definitely recommend them for a newbie. I've been there 3 1/2 years and the positives have outweighed the negatives up until this point.

Are you over the road or regional? What would you say the negatives and positives are?

Actually, not much worse, if at all worse than a lot of the others. The problem at Schneider that I saw later when talking to Schneider drivers is that the dispatchers were bad. I also saw some woefully unprepared drivers at Shneider. I had to fix a trailer connection for one gal and back a trailer in for a guy...and I had about 1 year experience at the time. They also screwed their drivers (at that time) regarding lumper pay. However, that being said, you can find horror stories from all the big companies. Just remember this...you are not an individual to any large company and your only importance to them is to make someone else their money. In that respect, its sort of like sales. What have you done for me lately? A lot depends on your own individual dispatcher, regardless of what company you go with. The best suggestion I can make is to go with the best benefit and pay package AND if you don't like it, go elsewhere after a year or more.

Here at USA Truck, the key to getting decent pay checks, is to get a good Fleet Manager (dispatcher), then all you have to do, is prove to them that you can make on time pick ups and deliveries, and communicate with them, especially if you are going to be early for delivery. I stay out anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks, and average about 3,000 miles per week. My only bad weeks as far as miles, are the weeks when I go home, but that's my choice. And I've never had any problems with getting home for my hometime on time, but I do have one of the best Fleet Managers in the company.

No such thing as a decent paycheck at a bottom feeder. CPM is too low to make it a true statement. You may think it's decent because you stay out so long. Available to the company seven days a week for a month or so at a time to get decent pay makes no sense. If you are only comparing low paying companies, then they may be best of the dirt bag companies. Until you've experienced real pay available to drivers, you don't know.

Ok Sevenmph, I understand you don't like these so called Bottom Feeder companies, before I came back over to USA Truck, I spent about a month, calling around to different companies, talking to different drivers out at the truckstops, and couldn't find any company out there, that was going to be able to come any where close to the pay package that USA was going to pay. If you don't mind me asking, what companies do you recommend? I live in the Spartanburg / Greenville area of SC., I don't mind staying out 4 to 6 weeks at a time, just not into doing the flatbed side of trucking, due to my age, and being slightly over weight. Any info will be appreciated. Thxs
