    Well said pattyj.

All the safety practices that are drilled into girls from a young age must be largely abandoned just to become a solo driver. I'm referring to things like "stay in a group", "avoid unfamiliar surroundings", etc. Every night a lady trucker has to go to sleep by herself surrounded by a bunch of lonely, horny males. I'd imagine it's a little unnerving.

Any women driver has my respect right off the bat just for being brave enough to tackle it.

I agree Tony and that is why I no longer work for that company. Unfortunately my pay was so low that I had to rely on my bonuses to pay for my insurance. We were aloud to be late for a delivery only once per month and then you lost your bonus. One day I would have an 11:00 PM. delivery time and the next would have a 3:00 PM followed up by a 7:00 AM. I didn't know the Company was taking advantage of me because I was a newbie. It was also winter and I wasn't sweating and I had baby wipes. I know better now and the new company that I work for treats me very well and showers are not a concern anymore. (They actually pay for them if I don't have a free one). I see your retired I hope you enjoy your well earned retirement after 33 Yrs. brother you deserve it.

Well me being a female knows all about why more women won't join the industry and why some don't succeed.

I don't care how long women been in this industry many still think its a mans job and get surprised looks when a female gets out of the trk.Last week I applied for a shuttle driver, not 1 female driver I saw and all the ppl in the office had this amazing look like a female applying for this job.Take a look at the forum, there's way more male drivers then female.

Thanks so much Chim Chim...too bad that there are folks like that around , but I'm glad you've found a better place to work. Those are extremely hard to come by. I was one of the really fortunate ones , only did OTR for a short while , then landed a dream job where I stayed for over 30 years retiring in 2011....Best of luck in your career , I hope yours is as good to you as mine was to me! TTTD....

I find the question to be stupid and wrong headed. We do not need to draw women, blacks, gays, Mexicans, Muslims, Baptist, Republicans, Cowboys, Handicap folks, or any particular group into trucking. Trucking needs Truckers. They come in all shapes and styles. All we should do is remove any barriers to groups wanting to get into the business. To do that all you need to do is to make funding more available. More diverse groups become owners, more diverse groups become employees.

Women make the same wages as men do. Women do the same job as men do. If they need special consideration for working in trucking then they don't need to be in trucking. I guarantee that there are women out there in the trucking world who are much better at the job then I am. They are making more then I am because we are being paid for what we do.

Not picking on anyone but give Patty access to a $250,000 Small Business Administration load and she would buy a new truck and trailer, get her own authority and find her own freight. She would repay the loan within 3 years and buy a second and third truck and hire women to drive them.

Would that increase the number of women in trucking? Probably not because this job requires a certain type of person to do it. There may not be a lot of women who want to be truckers. Patty is special. That is why we all love her. :yes2557:
