After doing this for most of the last 12 years I am thinking about getting my own authority. Little background first:
10 years as a company driver.
1 year O/O leased to a carrier.
Recently, L/P for a mega carrier (Profitable).
I have decided to purchase a truck again next spring when my lease is up. I am really leaning towards getting my own authority and going for broke.
If I don't come to my senses first, I will go back to flats (7 years exp.) to make it happen.
I have the financial aspects locked down but no customer base, yet.
Talk me off the ledge please. .

Here's the question. Are you profitable as a company driver? Do you have a family with young children?
-
A million dollars worth of IOUs.
If you dont have your own customers, you are going to be at the mercy of brokers. Look for someone that will hunt your money down for you. -
I am profitable as a L/P, and my son is now 19 and in the Army.
Just took me years to learn how to run a truck like a business. -
If it's your dream, go for it. You see a lot of guys go on their own and fail miserably because of other things (house, kids, etc).
-
If you fall or fail you will go splat!

I am to the point of paying cash for a used Freightliner and getting ready to do this in a year.

Buying your lease truck at he end of its service life?
-
Has anyone seen my marbles.. ?
I cant find them any where..Honch Thanks this. -
No, I am leasing a 2015 Cascadia, but will turn it in next spring at the end of the lease. I just did L/P as an easy way to save money to buy a truck again.
