Let me share something that just happened. I was in New Jersey looking for a load. On the get loaded load board the same load was listed by 2 separate brokers, going from New Jersey down to Alabama a little over 1100 miles. Called the first broker and they told me $750 was all it would pay. I tried to negotiate but the broker was very firm on the rate and not very nice at all. I knew loads leaving from that area wasn't paying very well but come on now but less than $1 a mile just won't cut it for me. I called the second broker, which was a large brokerage (TQL) and they asked what it would take to move it. I replied that $2 a mile would be my bottom dollar. They told me let them check with their customer and they would call me back. I told them that I would still be looking and might book one in the mean time, which was OK with them. While I was waiting for the return call I kept searching and found a Landstar load that payed very good going down to Laredo Texas and booked it. Shortly after I booked the Landstar load TQL calls back and said that their customer would go $2200 which would be $2 a mile. I told them that I had already booked a load and thanked them very much for calling me back. I understand that everyone needs to make a living but the first broker was getting way too carried away. I will not disclose the first broker because I do not want to start any trouble for them.

You didn't have a rate confirmation, so you did the right thing. You will see the same loads on get loaded, landstar, Robinson, and more just make sure you get paid well for your service.

Landstar can reload you out of laredo probably with a fatter rate than anybody else there. They have an office down off mines rd and do lots of transloading there for platform and vans. More than likely the same office that you booked that one with will be more than glad to load you. Just a heads up.

Yes Sir this is very true. Landstar has already called me trying to do that. I told them I do not book loads until I am empty and have myself and truck serviced up and ready to go.

I got a better one for you.
On Thursday I booked a load going down to Virginia from Maryland. Got the rate confirmation and on Friday morning the lady behind the window at her desk said the pickup number was not good.
I said I can not pickup cell phone service around here can I use your phone. She replied only if it toll free.
I ended up leaving without the load because I couldn't call the broker and get the right number. The girl at the window knew what load it was too.
Called the broker when I got to Virginia and guess what they were mad at me for not going back to pick up the load.
