    Sleep and Idle...what's the truth?

Been doing my research and again came up with a good one.

What's the story about running the truck at Idle (when the weather is cold or hot)?

A OTR driver (actually he drives the SE and is home every-weekend) buddy of mine says that he always idles and runs the Air all the time. He works for Hartland and does dry hauling but has to park in Truck-stops every night. He says its no problem.

HOWEVER, upon reading further, i see some companies frown upon idling while sleeping at a truck stop.

    • How do drivers handle the Heat-Cold weather when sitting at a Truck Stop without Air or Heat?
    • Are some companies making their drivers sit idle without heat or air?

    Thanks for your help...

You can reach so much percentage idle time, once you go over that, companies will start giving you arnings and then terminate you some will charge you for the extra fuel used.More and more states have a no idle law.Once you're on the road long enough, you get use to not idleing or go drive for a company that has APU'S.

If they don't provide an apu or bunk heater then to hell with their "company policy" ... Idle away. There is always an outrage when a child or a pet is found in a vehicle alone. Why should truck drivers be expected to bake in there?

Yep. Trucking companies are evidently exempt from abuse charges 'cause as a driver, your worth less-than-a-dog.

I'm with you on this one gokid,

Bottom line is most companies do not care about their drivers. the less personal and mega carriers.See they're in their cushy office or cubicals so why should they care what drivers go thru.Poor pay poor treatment poor everything and they wonder why they can't keep drivers.

What the Sam Hill is all this rutkus about. All the driver has to do is go into the truck stop and sleep in the breakroom like everybody else. Get a turbo fan or make a redneck cooler. Where there's a will. There's a way :)

I tell you what. The boss man puts these people in a nice truck and they want to burn all the fuel by sitting idle. I ain't Never. If the Wheels ain't rolling you ain't earning. If you want ac. You can get that when you rolling. There is no time to make these lazy people fill comfortable. They ain't gona want to work. So after sweating for a few hours. They get up and drive. So they can get some AC. I just love it when a plan comes together.
