Sleep and Idle...what's the truth?

Yeah me too; I turned down 3 companies when they started talking about idle restrictions; no sir. My safety (by way of being able to get a good night's sleep) is more important than their pocketbook. Bottom line.

 

Years ago when I drove for CFI, dispatch called me at 2 am in January, -12 outside, and told me I needed to turn the truck off. I asked them if they had the heater on there a corporate. They said, yes, it's cold outside. So I told them, that's why my truck is running and hung up. Turned my keys in next time I was at the yard.

These days I wouldn't drive otr without an apu. Not only does idling cost the company money, it costs me in lost fuel bonusrs.

 

Yep. Definetly go with a company with an apu. I have electronic apu and have ac/heat whenever I want it..livin the life ya know..

 

Why Hell, back in the good ol days of the 70s we ran from OKC 95-100 degrees to CA via Kingman and PHX with 120 degree temps and running sleeper teams. We had 36" sleepers and smooth roads on 66. Not a bump anywhere. We slept like babies, woke up crying every 2 hrs.

 

There ya go. They talk idle restrictions, I talk See Ya Later. As for states with idle laws, I ripped their pages right out of my road atlas.

 

That's true but I see you obviously never froze to death in NYC. Neither did I.

 

I like you but you are a piece of work.Its easy for you to judge because you're on looseleaf and I take it no QUALCOMM in your trk.I bet you idle during your breaks.I bet you don't take your 10 hr brk in the trkstops brkroom do you?FMCSA wants us to be good boys and girls and get the required sleep to function.How you spose to sleep in the heat and in the cold.?No beds in the brk rooms so no chance of sleeping there.Whats this redneck cooler you speak off,putting a fan near it and letting it circulate back to the sleeper area?That doesn't work,I have tried that.I bet you don't do any of the things you mentioned.

 

I think it requires ice in the cooler...put 2 holes in the cooler and rig up a little fan in one of the holes and it blows out the cold air..you can use a small cheap fan like a computer fan or what not with a 12v plug..I have seen it done on a Styrofoam cooler and a regular cooler..a previous poster put a link to a pre made one you can purchase at a store I guess.
