I've never considered the money spent on preventative maintenance to be "burning money". Personally, I'd have changed my oil well before 250k miles, as that cost is substantially less than a repair bill for an oil related engine failure. Sure, doing unconventional things is exciting, and running an OCI out as far as possible ranks right up there with trying to see just how many miles you can squeeze out of a tankful of fuel before running out, but I prefer a less exciting and more reasonable approach to things...
I tend to take some things somewhat seriously, like OEM fluid change intervals, and sure, adding a bypass unit will allow for an extended drain interval. I've got a bypass unit, and do extended drains, but I'm not interested in pushing the envelope. When I've gotten the value out of the product that I envisioned getting when I purchased it, I then change the oil. It's crazy, I know, but that's just me.....
I change my own oil, costs a couple hundred bucks, and sure I do it a couple times a year, but then, I can afford it.
If you've got an engine warranty try this, send the engine manufacturer the marketing literature from your bypass manufacturer, and tell them you don't intend to change your oil for a couple years, if ever.....should be an interesting response letter from the OEM.
