to use a chain run through the rubrail as a anchor point for straps????

your 14 high. on a stepdeck. and you've used up all your 35's. all you have left, are 30's. to which are 1 feet shy of reaching winch.

I would say yes but a professional might know for sure.

chains are 1/4. and not used much. what loads do get hauled. are sufficient with 1/4. so 5/16 isn't part of the equipment.

should the chain break for whatever reason. you've lost the securement for that one strap.

    FMCSA's Driver's Handbook on Cargo Securement - Chapter 2

    http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulation...securement-chapter-2-general-cargo-securement

    Tiedown use
Each tiedown must be attached and secured so that it does not become loose or unfastened, open, or release during transit.

All tiedowns and other components of a cargo securement system must be located within the rubrails (when present).

    Note:
This requirement does not apply when the width of the load extends to or beyond the rubrails.

Yes, but you can't use the rubrail itself as an anchor point.

I've done it in the past, particularly with round bails.

Not step deck in this pick. But if you look mid way down,.. I anchored the chains and then hooked my straps to the chains. Different method, but same situation as yours. I have better picks of this at home. This one I had posted on photobucket.

Just because you've done it, it must be legal

Well,... if you pass through 5 different scales crossing 6 or 7 states and no one gave you a cross look. I cant make a 100% assertion that its legal,.. but the probability that it is remains high in my opinion.

I mean we are asking questions on the internet,.. so what ever gets posted must have some basis on truth right? LOL
