TMC likes to think of itself as The Marine Corp. Don't think about the hard work there is in tarping a load. Think about those of us who depend on you for our freedom. You are one of the few, the proud. You will be out there in the rain and snow, ice and heat. Ever faithful.
Actually, being paid a percentage of the load is the only way to work.

TMC's customers require it you mean, flatbed without tarping much is pretty common actually. I certainly hope they wouldn't make you tarp for no reason. Not really sure what you're talking about with the going slow justification as it doesn't really make sense, but hey glad you like it there!

If you run vans and do a lot of drop and hook, you work all day and the faster you go, the more miles you haul and the more money you make. At TMC, most of our runs are a day long. If you get their early you just sit more. You don't make more money. Msot of our loads deliver next morning. So, if you get there at 7pm instead of 9 pm, it makes no difference. Going faster on most loads wont help you. Since your paid by the load, and not per mile, the miles run isnt important as long as you get the load there before the next morning. Many TMC drivers average .48-.55 on all miles. At those rates you can drive slower and still make more then the guy paid .45 that drives faster. Since our per mile rate is so high (if you are on the % package) you can drive less miles a day (slower) and still make more money.
Flatbed without tarping.....well you have specialized freight that doesn't get tarped, boats, tractors cat stuff etc. But generally the back haul is gonna be some construction matirial that gets tarped. If you want to run efficiently you will tarp something. There simply isnt no tarp loads all over and thus unless you want to deadhead, you will tarp somthing. Melton, western express, Tmc, Maverick all tarp. If you hate tarping get into RGN or a boat devison. -
The only thing thAt concerns me about driving for TMC is driving that 13 speed. I'm accustomed to a 10 speed and know if #### hits the fans can always fall back to 7th for speeds 15-20. 13 speed with two splitters I'd worry I'd forget what gear I'd be in half the time.
-
Don't worry about that. You don't gave to split the top side gears until you're comfortable with it. I only split the top side if I'm heavy or to keep the rpms where I want them driving through a town or something.

If you have to ask, stay out of the industry.

red back, range down you can jump into 4th for 15 mph. The range wont go down if red is forward. Its pretty easy to get used to. Starting out takes time, to get used to. I now am back in a 10 and constantly screw up my 10 speed.

Benzino- Cut your hair if you are worried about it. But, they only do Urine here. We've all made mistakes in the past including experimenting with marijuana. Sounds like you have made changes and are on the right path. Just remember that life is behind you now when you enter the trucking industry.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
thank you very much semperfidrive...i'm glad you were able to see things from my point of view...instead of this other douche who just goes "oh stay out the industry if you have to ask" like i previously said...i've realised that drugs is a definite no no in the trucking industry...with that said...i will never ever be one who have to worry about a drug test in the industry...i've been clean for a long time and i intend to keep it this way...but thanks for your positive feedback instead of this other selfish and arrogant dude...
