If you're really worried about it, give it a few hot days to soak in, then run it through a truck wash. I've never been charged more than $20 to get the deck sprayed off. The oil soaks into the wood, so spraying off what's left on the top won't hurt anything, and over time the oil will spread evenly through the wood. Just make sure the wood is good and dry first, because any water in it will keep the oil out. The first time I did it I'd been running around CO, AZ, and UT in July, and my 4 4" wide boards soaked up almost a gallon each. They were so warped and brittle I was sure I'd need new wood by winter, but now almost 2 years later, it looks like the wood is going to outlast the aluminum in some places.
Is boiled Linseed Oil the best treatment for wood decks?

I have 3 boards 8" width, I'm sure never treated with anything. I can let it sit in for a while n just use the other wagon (...my luck I'll coat it n immediately get a dozen calls that can't fit under the fasttrack :/ ) just was wanting to know the approximate timeframe. Also, I appreciate that you mentioned how much oil you ended up using. Good info to have! Thanks Barroll

I used Thompson water seal for decks last time I did mine. A $10 weed sprayer makes quick work of it but will probly be junk when finished.
I dunno, the linseed oil sounds good too. Not sure it matters a whole lot. Keep oil in the wood, keep water outbarroll Thanks this. -
Hey guys I was a woodworker for years and just want to post a cautionary note for anyone working with oil.
If you have oily rags do not pile them in the corner of the shop somewhere, they should be soaked in a bucket of water or disposed of properly to prevent a fire hazard.
Many a shop has burned from oily rags bursting into flame from spontaneous combustion. -
I heard that you mix linseed oil and diesel fuel 50/50 and spray on generously with a garden sprayer. That was a manufacturers recommendation. I always just swapped my apitong decks with used motor oil. I try not to use diesel oil though because it's so sooty.

Has anyone used transmission fluid? Had a trailer place recommend that to me years ago, and have used it since on my trailers. I have no idea if it's better or worse than motor oil as I've never gone that route.

Did the second coat of used oil today. Soaks in good. 2.5 gallons so far, needs a couple more coats. I used oil from my last change. Good n black. Definitely keeps the water out- monsoon season started about 40 minutes after I finished today.
