Also with a big sleeper you can be limited to a 48' trailer in a lot of states because of overall lenght. With a 48' trailer the limit in most is around 105'. But pulling anything longer, you are limited to 75'.
With pulling a flat or step, the normal is 48' trailer. But pulling a dry van, the normal is 53'.
This is part of the reason most big sleepers pull steps.RubyEagle, Another Canadian driver and truckinmike1984 Thank this. -
I have a friend that used to be leased to Southern Pride. He and his wife got tired of the BS and found another home for their truck. . Go a head and lease a big apartment to them. You will need it as you sit a lot waiting for engines to be tested, rebuilt ect. Then run your butt off to the next downed air craft, off load it then wait for the other 6 trucks in front of you to load or leave . Not as good as the picture painted by dispatchers or the HR dept and other drivers. Most SP drivers do not like newbies as that makes them sit for one more truck some where in the system. Can you afford that truck and have the Step deck set up for nearly every kind of engine cover and securement?. You will need custom tarps for certain engines and bungees cannot be used on most .These tarp are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Off the record. The sharper the paint job and trailer the better the chance you can lease to them. You wont make a dime more than the plain Jane truck but will look good sitting there. SP is ot the same company it used to be 10 years ago.

Here is my deal. I just recently put together a 2014 Pete 389, 324"wb with a 120" sleeper. I haul cars, and some double drop freight between CA and TX mostly. My car hauler is a 53' trailer. Which means I roll through Banning scales several times a month a have never gotten pulled in for anymore than a routine inspection. I live in central california so I have seen every scale. No problems. I even roll through with my blue ground effects lights on. If you and your truck look like S#$t they screw with you. I bought this thing because I got tired of waiting in line for showers, nasty truck stop bathrooms, and why lie, it is nice to be able to pull over and use the restroom when I want to with out having to find a place in town big enough for my truck to get in. The fridge and tv arent to bad either

That's why I started this thread. I want the most feedback both positive and negative. I have hauled freight off of the Landstar board before and a couple of others.
But what I am considering is 379 or W900 with 300" wheelbase and 48' spread axle step. If my math is correct, I should be able to legally put about 42k lbs on the deck.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
I've got a 379 with a 325 wb pull a 48 step my empty weight is 40k. Don't have a problem finding loads for it.

Lot of So P loads are overwidth. Just look at a 777 or 747 9.2 to 9.4 ft radius and they can be over 13.6.

i do good off the load boards too. Im 42k empty with a double drop stretch. 48k empty with my car hauler
