Have a dash cam!
A situation occurred with me a year ago where a girl in her 20's was drifting into my lane as she was passing me on the left (texting on her phone). I tooted the horn. For some reason, she did not like this and proceeded to cut in front of me and slam on her brakes. I had to swerve to avoid hitting her. She continued doing this for several minutes. I got on the phone with the state police and had a trooper intercept my location 80 miles South of Dallas on I-45. I showed the trooper the dash cam video.... the girl went to jail! Had I rear ended her, I at least would still have the dash cam video to prove my innocence. People like this on the road need to be put UNDER the jail!bergy, postmandav and jjsiegal Thank this. -
you need to be much more worried about your 'brethren'.........for the most part, 4 wheelers will act like they've got some good sense. On the other hand, not a day goes by that I don't see a "Professional Driver" doing something that borders on insanity.

Trying to keep a safe distance did not do a bit of good back in the 60's, 70's, & 80's either.
Every time I keep the proper distance a car would sneak in right in front of me closing that gab.
And I remember when ever going though Fort Worth Dallas area if you used your turn signal prior to changing lanes a car would speed up & block you from moving over, & if possible they would show you a big ugly grinning face saying, "HA, HA, I blocked you!" During those days out in California the cars would generally make room for the trucks & would not block you out.
The Houston area was very bad too.popcorn169 Thanks this. -
Truckers are big targets for crash fraud artists. Big, easy money and quick to settle. Modern cars can sustain massive rear-end crash impact and occupant suffer little risk of injury other then feigned injury. Rear-end crashes are hard to defend. Dash cam video may help in some cases but this is not a guarantee of driver liability protection.
As far as the idiot drivers, they're everywhere. Good, basic defensive and alert driving goes a long way to preventing collisions with these morons. -
True also,
I was driving I-95 today, and saw a FLAT BED driver, pull right up behind a Reefer and got about 1 car length behind him. He was hauling #### and wanted to pass...and eventually he did. But the FLATBED driver was way out of line.

Yeah, except for when people specifically try to get us to rear end them for that lawsuit payout.
Happens all the time in Cleveland. -
why do you think all these trucking companies are buying these systems that monitor the vehicles in front of you ... i have driven two new trucks with this system and i will tell you they are not perfect but they do work ...
all large trucking companies will have their entire fleets converted with this new system... -
I can believe that.People think the trucking industry is perfect for scamming thousands off them.

I cant recommend a dash cam enough. I got one earlier this year and its served its purpose several times. Even got video of a guy running his wife off the road into a ditch and then pulling her out and beating the snot out of her. That issue is still at trial.
They are generally cheap to get, (less then $200 for the nicer ones). I use my Tablet as a dash cam with the free dash cam software (AutoGuard). Gives GPS data, and speeds, plus it uses the accelerometers to detect crashes. Can also use it if you have a smart phone.
