I was on the way to El Paso that morning and was stuck in the backup. Fortunately there was an exit on to a frontage road that they were diverting traffic on to and around the wreck. I saw it firsthand and it looked even worse in first person.

You shouldn't beat yourself up with "what ifs". It's not worth it and won't change anything anyway.

Years ago when I was in the restaurant/hotel business we had a busy Saturday night and as was usual, when the last of the guests went home and we were done cleaning up for the night...we all sat down to have a drink and unwind.

We had a lot of nice people working for us and one of them was a young lady who taught school during the week and worked for us on weekends.

It was snowing hard that night and I went outside to start my car and let it warm up for a few minutes before I had to drive home. While I was out there, I cleaned the snow and ice off from my co-workers cars to be nice so they wouldn't have to do it when they got ready to leave.

All of the employees were very appreciative of that of course and the gal that worked for us part-time (the teacher) gave me a kiss on the cheek and told me how sweet I was for doing that for her just before she left to go home. She didn't make it home that night. A car coming toward her lost control and hit her head on. They got her to the hospital but her injuries were just to extensive and she died a couple of hours later.

I beat myself up for a long time about that...in fact, I still think about it sometimes. If I hadn't cleaned the snow off from her car...she would have had to waste 5 minutes doing it and she would have never been where she was when the accident happened. But you can't think like that. It was an accident. It happened.

Years ago I read a book by a Detroit Free Press sports writer named Mitch Albom. His book was titled "The Five People You Meet in Heaven", and it chronicled the life and death of an old man and five people he had a direct influence upon during his life. If that book or Albom's thoughts are indeed a possibility, the first person I am going to run into is Michelle. I helped to cut her life short...someday I will have to answer for that even if it was unintentional.

Oh, I don't beat my self over that yet one can't wonder about the what ifs in any incident with someone getting killed.

NO, that incident was not your fault, you were helping that woman, & she appreciate it.

Lets not forget that I-10 between phoenix and L.A. is the most dangerous road traveled. I believe it's called blood alley due to all the wrecks. I realize that marana isn't on this stretch but, has similarities.
