Camera's in the cab???

Only a few companies have them, heard they only come on when you brake too hard or swerve.

 

We have cameras in our cabs, video will go back 8 sec. prior to whatever triggered the camera, also has audio. It triggers while hard braking, swerving, rough roads, going over rr tracks, or speed bumps too fast, and of course accidents. No eating, no cell phones, no distractions, both hands on the wheel, scanning mirrors and seatbelt !!! It sees and hears everything, so be nice to the motoring public when they cut you off. Otherwise, you will be called into the office, shown the video and asked to explain. I don't like big bro watching me all the time, but I have to admit, it has made me a safer, more cautious and courteous driver. Besides it sees both the road and the cab, so if you are in an accident and it's not your fault, you've got the footage to back your story. So it's bad and good. Seems more companies are doing this, all in the name of safety = insurance cost. Get used to it

 

This camera thing could go both ways in the event of a crash... if a driver is at fault , the trucking company could still get sucked into a negligence and liability suit .
I dont think these cameras will give them the luxury of hanging everything on the drivers in the event of a mishap

Who was it on TTR that was trying to rally everyone together for a strike? What was it that you were wanting to strike for? Wages? Better treatment? Well, here you have a driver that says that he's better at his job because of a cattle prod. Why should drivers strike for better treatment when cattleprod appear to work? Score one for the cattle industry!

Now, on the down side...you cattle-like drivers, are going to be in trouble. You will have some 4 wheeler rear end you, and the camera will show that 6 seconds before the hit, you took one hand off the wheel to adjust your goobers.

i will not "get used to it". I reserve that right to say whatever I want and make any gesture that I want in the cab of my truck. There is no good reason for a company to install an inward facing video camera.

 

Next time you are in a shopping mall or on a crowded big city street, look around at all of the cameras, not to mention neighborhood watch, and business lobbies, gas stations. They are everywhere. Heck, everyone has a cell phone with a camera and using it all the time, not to mention the Police who have had dashcam and now cameras on their bodies.

I guess it boils down to this, if you want the job, accept the camera, otherwise find a company that doesn't have them, or become an O/O and make your own rules. The trucking industry has been regulated to the inth degree and then some.

 

I have a feeling if the driver was at fault the company might have a hard time retrieving the video.....if ya know what I'm saying.
