UPSF is the foreign asian redheaded stepchild adopted from Ethiopia, It's the UPS way or the highway.
My experience: It was a US vs THEM aroma in the air ( petty and serious grievances with MGT - vice versa )
It's a great job, I can't handle drama. Just not for me.

PS: OT isn't bad eitherXFM2013 Thanks this. -
SEFL is not a bad place to work. I don't think they pay as much as conway but its close and with a lot less BS. The shifts they make you work at conway are very hard on people at the bottom of the board. If I were going the non union route my first choice would be OD. There top pay in the carolinas is 24.10 and all the benefits at the these places are close to the same. SEFL and ESTES are good also. Yrc,holland and new penn top out at 21.09 with the paycut but get OT after 8 everyday and free insurance but the pension is pretty much toast. Really only bad thing I now of with sefl is they will work you alot of hours but thats just ltl in general.

Not our city guys... When it's cold they want nothing to do with the dock, when war, they all al
of a sudden want OT -
Here we go...
Conway versus Southeastern.
I work for SEFL currently and we have a pretty prominent group of former Conway employees. At my location, we make more than Conway in all general employment areas (city, line, dock). As I understand it, Conway drivers make up a fairly large percentage of dock assets and that could be a bad thing because if you go run for 9 hours, they can use you for another 5 on the dock (if you're expected to be in at the same time tomorrow...to do the same thing). In my observation SEFL is not going to make a new guy work the dock if inexperienced, strictly because the lack of production would not justify the expenditure. Personally, I know several people who have done well and like Conway, same for southeastern. We all have different expectations and what works for one may not work for another. I will say that SEFL isn't perfect by any stretch but I do well monetarily and Luke my job. Personally I would go to Schneider before going to Conway just because I find their employment utilization model to be profoundly undesireable. For the trollers... that isn't a fancy way of saying I'm lazy... -
is dockwork at conway a grueling workout or just a boring drag with forklifts and other loading equipment?....i'm 35 years old and used 2 long days in the weather, in decent health, just gotta lose the old gut, got an interview 2morrow...i dont want to be the old man in a young mans game...i remember one guy saying it took him 10 years of tenure to be in the middle of the line when picking his runs....im just wondering if putting myself in the position to be a 40 year old dockworker is a bad idea?

Best thing to do is too ask drivers out of the terminal you intend to apply to. Only they can tell you how it is. Every terminal is different

What he said^^^. Some facilities are decent to work at and one 40 miles up the road stinks. At most of the bigger barns it may take a while to get good runs, but you'll spend more time driving than on a dock. One good question to ask is what's the shortest night line-haul run. That's often times what you'll end up with when you're new and if it's like 150 miles round trip it will be intolerable to most people with the amount of time you'll spend on the dock. I never had to do that and I know I couldn't.
