Scared of going to CDL school..

This would be my advice. If they are only 2 miles from your home, you have a great advantage. Ask them if you can spend some of your free time talking to drivers, hanging out with them, maybe even see if you can take a short trip or two with one of them. Use what you have to your advantage to make yourself succeed.

 

I like to say, "The only thing to fear is Ninjas." There aren't any ninjas hiding in a truck so you are good to go.

 

There are NO GUARATEES in any new endeavor so just set some of those doubts aside and let's get the JOB DONE! you gotta' start somewhere and i am sure there are drivers at USA trucking who are doing well. The skills you are about to learn hopefully will serve you well for a lifetime young-fella !! GOOD-LUCK

You're 21, make $8.86/hr doing construction, and own a house? But don't want to go trucking because the pay won't be enough to keep the house? Am I missing something?
