I'm signing on with Interstate Distributor Co and have some questions. I start classes on March 3rd so I'm trying to get answers before I start. On the Western 11 how often do solo drivers drive? I've went through the pages on Interstate and a lot of the drivers have said solo drivers only get leftovers and don't get many miles. Also, what is the average pay for a solo driver if only doing the western 11? I've been told the company pays for everything as far as fuel, scale fees, tolls and so forth but I've also been getting conflicting answers. Does anyone ever have problems with lay overs or not getting home on time? Also, if I have an emergency and need to get home (if anyone has experienced this) how well are they about getting you home? I've also read through the posts where some had emergencies and got home and some did not. If anyone could help me out it would be great and feel free to leave any feedback about the company. I am completely new to trucking (as far as not doing so in the military) and want to know what I am dealing with.

I'm a solo driver with Interstate and get home weekly, for the most part. It may only be a "fly by", but I do get to sleep in my own bed, do a load of wash, change out the litter boxes, get my mail, and food shop for the truck. Some weekends, I'll get my restart in. The weeks vary: I've had weeks where I ran over 3,000 miles, the past three weeks were good, nice take home paychecks. This week, check will be in the toilet. And we just went to Elogs, so I do expect that checks will get worse, unless planners can start giving me decent runs and not those "daffy duck" days where you're doing short hops from York to Carlisle, drop and hook, and do that three times in a day. No money in that, we don't get paid drop and hook pay, hourly pay is only $13.00 an hour. So, like any company, you will have good weeks, and bad. I'm sitting in Atlanta today, got two lousy loads, back to back, from planner, but to be fair, they are just trying to get me back home to NC. But this "preloaded" trailer isn't even started yet, some problem with the product, and it won't be loaded until sometime THIS WEEK. Planner has nothing for me yet...so here I sit. Days like today have me looking on Craig's list for local work, lol!

Depending on where you live, Interstate gets you home often. Anywhere on I-5 will get you by the house twice a week on average. Not always for long, but it was much easier on paper logs. Now you have to shut it down even if you're only 50 miles out. Welcome to the future...
