Thanks for the info , seems like so many companies to choose from. I like TA because they let you know up front for sure if you have the job or not.
I their training did they teach about driving through the mountains ?
What about drug test and DOT Physical ?
As I posted before , I met a guy who drove for them for 13 yrs and is quitting because of the camera.
How do you feel about the camera ?
I appreciate all your info

Hey Dennis seems your are riding the fence about your decision. Just my 2¢ but keep looking local and go meet face to face with owners just may land with the perfect company.

I'm just the "significant other", dennisroc, but, as to the camera, it only activates if there is a blow to the truck. I've read other drivers share how it helped them, in cases where the other vehicle in a collision or other incident was at fault. The camera is really to your advantage. It isn't there to snoop on you. Seems many truck drivers have issues with it. I wonder if they don't really understand about the camera fully. George isn't bothered by it. Hometime Queen can tell you of an incident where an additional camera, that can be turned on at will, helped the King out.
HTW, did he ever hear anything from his safety director about that?
DOT physical and drug test are requirements of the application process. I believe Trans Am pays for it. No real worries about the physical. Since you work on airplanes, whatever weight restriction requirements they have will be a cinch for you.dennisroc Thanks this. -

As far as I know, we have always paid for the DOT physical....the drug screen the companies will do, and also any random drug screens that you may come up for periodically.
I don't think we ever answered you about going to the northeast, dennisroc. There is no doubt that some of it is bad ....I don't know anyone that enjoys going into New Jersey or NYC. Some of these places were never meant to handle the trucks of today. Parking can be difficult and washouts. There are parts of it that the King always enjoyed, Maine and up state New York...parts of New Hampshire. Some of the scenery was beautiful. For the most part the people that he delivered and picked up from were driver friendly, that made a huge difference.....the traffic can be a nightmare. You find your favorite places to park and develop a routine.
We never heard anything from the safety director or the company owner so I don't see a problem with posting the video .....it's just a procrastination problem on my part!
The King has his own camera and left TransAm before they were installed in the trucks. I never saw a problem with the outward facing cameras but always saw the potential for abuse with the ones that face the drivers. However, since they have been installed most of the drivers have had no problems with them and they only record in the case of an event......but they are on anytime the truck is running. I think for the most part TransAm has handled the cameras in an ethical way. I was doing some research and found that they had lost 2 court cases last year over accidents that occurred 4 and 5 years ago. I don't remember exactly what the second settlement was but from what I read in one case the judgement was $1.4 million ....the second was not quite so much, but almost. Reading about these cases one of them sounded like a professional swindler that did a brake check but no way to prove it....now there is.dennisroc Thanks this. -

TransAm takes the med card you will already have at that point and scan it to put on file. You get a Wizz quiz on day one. But if you're brought to orientation you've got a job as long as you pass the UA.
I really don't care about the camera. I cuss it out when it turns red because I hate the evil red light of doom but I rarely get phone calls about it. I like this job too much to throw a hiss and quit just because of the camera alone.gntorres61 and HometimeQueen Thank this.
