I wear a flourescent safety vest while driving, in case someone doesn't see the truck. Gonna get a hard hat next.

I resemble that remark. Company policy is to wear a safety vest anytime we're out of the truck. Kind of hard to enforce from 500 miles away, but I go to a lot of job sites where I need it. Sometimes it's just easier to leave it on and keep rolling.

Starboyjim, who have I name called? I am in trucking school about to get my CDL next week. I want to drive an automatic, not go to Mexico or NYC, and will probably be very happy with E-logs. I bet it is safe to say that I am a steering wheel holder. Oh, I am also driving to support my family, not for the love of the lifestyle. So I hope that I have not offended anyone because that was never my intent. I enjoy this forum and has received great advice and insight from everyone here. I have even been entertained. Hope this clarifies my original post. As for the PTI, I will be a true trucker concerning that. I want to get home alive and we'll and I want those I share the road with to have the same. Thanks for the PTI advice.

Let's not forget that wheel holders run under the speed limit in the middle lane in their governed company slug truck and don't pull up after fueling.

Also, when we pull in the truck stops at night, we don't back in. We just pull in forward to" protect our tractor nose."

I would never call myself a professional truck driver, I will let someone else call me that if they chose to, I just do not believe in bragging, boasting, about myself as some do.

Of course me being an OldHasBeen I'm not out there driving trucks any longer. When out there I just did my job to the best of my ability & I'm very happy & thankful that I was never in a bad wreck with anyone getting killed. So I do not have to regret any of my driving days.

I had one the other day after I parked at the fast food emporium, this girl pulls right into the spot right in front of my truck. When we were in line and she got done with her phone call, I asked her why she parked in that spot while all the other ones were open because I have to wait until she moves to get out, she had the dumbest look on her face, walked to the door and then back, said "I didn't see the truck ... sorry" How can you miss a 40 foot white and blue truck with its lights on and the tires are tall as your car?

Well you won't be a steering wheel holder until you get the attitude. You're in school now so you can't see what that means yet. YOU won't go to Mexico, and NYC isn't as bad as people make it out as. EOBRs won't be an issue, you may be better off with them right from the start.

As mentioned a steering wheel holder is someone that just wants the money, they treat it as a job and try to get through the day no matter what. They don't want to think, they are either told what to do or do anything they want.

He doesn't care about improving his skills, he wants to just get by. He seems to be the person who will complain about how the company is screwing him but won't offer himself a way out.
