Fifth wheel play normal?

    I was checking truck over and noticed this..In this picture, the trailer is empty and the trailer is on a side hill, just wondering if it is normal for it to be able to angle on the fifth plate like that?

    Put about ten tons up on the nose end of your trailer and retake your picture. Your trailer is holding it's rigidity and plane in your current view. I'd trade that Holland in for a Fontaine, Lol. Dang them opinions.

    Haha, yah the trailer is turned from truck and on a differant slant, when everything is on level ground it sits flat on plate. Just wanted to make sure it was normal for it to be able to do that.

    yeah if the trailer is empty and the trailer is at a different angle than the truck and flat when they are on the same angle then yes that's normal.

    Yep, perfectly normal. The pin should be somewhat tight in the jaw in the way that it doesn't create horizontal or side to side slack, but vertical play like this is a must to allow some articulation over uneven terrain like you mentioned.

    If you are worried about the fifth wheel plate being flat check it with a piece of straight dunage. if the truck has been in an accident and the plate is bent then it should have been replaced.
    Just a thought!
