Damaged product, now what?

Hi crazw, this is another one of those unexpected surprises newbies don't think about. I used to hate when someone rejected a pallet, you had to work around it all day. What does dispatch say? Maybe you could donate it to the Red Cross, or something(keep the pallet), but it definitely screws up your day.

Why keep the pallet?

 

Sell it; it's worth $2 - $5 ; plenty of places that buy used pallets. I've been stuck with 24 - 48 pallets and sold them for $4.00 each. If you don't want to sell just one pallet; lean it against the dumpster at a truck stop and someone will pounce on it.

The water is easy to get rid of; pull into a truck stop and get on the CB radio; "Free Water."

 

Sorry, I meant keep the empty pallet. Like Chinatown sez, good 4 way 40x48's can cost $5 or more. Matter of fact, I figured they are a lot more now. Anybody had to buy pallets lately? What do they go for now?

What has your company said about this? Usually dispatch knows where to get rid of damaged product.

 

Mostly word of mouth as to where the used pallet places are. Sometimes it's on a billboard. Ask around; most experienced reefer drivers know where the places are. Always a couple of places near grocery warehouses. Good bucks; pays for some good meals on the road.
