Which route is better?

New York Thruway Pa line to Mass pike $88.31. 86 across to Binghamton & up 88 to Albany, 35 miles further and $31.12 est. ton mile tax. You don't pay tmt on pike miles. If you have a light load and a big horse I'd run 80,81,84. It's New England, no good way to go.

 

Thank you very much for all the info - the toll expenses (very good to know) the poor conditions on I-84 (also very good to know) and the reminder that tolls are tax deductible expense (head aches and frustration are not). This is a long trip but a very good paying one, so I will probably opt for the easier toll route. But I have until about noon tomorrow to decide: that's when I-80 and I-90 split off. Thanks again everyone! I will check this post again in the morning in case anyone else chimes in.

 

I gave it a good try for entertainment value only musicmaker60 and i think i scrubbed some tolls and only added another hour but in the end the terrain map made me think you might burn the money you saved in tolls on fuel ?
If you end up taking what Google maps routes as the toll route -and have time i would be curious to know what the final tally on tolls end's up at for that trip.

I sure hope that you aren't running up into the northeast for a flat rate AKA mileage pay. For all that traffic and toll roads, they should sweeten the deal.
