I noticed that I get less acknowledment during the day. I think it's just you don't see the lights as easy. I myself don't always see the lights go off and on in the day as I'm not looking in the mirror constantly to make sure I am clear ahead as well. Keep looking back and forth to make sure you are clear. Though I usually give the thank you flash either way in case I missed the signal. No skin off my back. And I for one can appreciate a flash at night to come on over when it's snowing, and the roads are salted, and the windows and mirrors are getting caked and the glare makes it harder to tell.
No more flashing!

I have been driving almost 14 years continuously in all 48 states and Canada. There are things I do by habit and continue with few exceptions. I would like to state first that, to me, a "joker pulling a dangerous stunt" that would creat a danger to ANYONE else, is not a joker but sick and a danger to society. If this person did it once he probably does it often. I would hope that if any driver saw this happen he(or she) would report it to 911 and the other drivers company.
I have serious radio and still use my CB all the time. It has a squelch that is pretty handy. I also use an ear speaker when my wife is asleep and this works great. I realize that many do not use their CB any more and most say it is because of the "new breed" of drivers. "IF" there is a lot of junk talk I know how to turn it off and still know how to reach up and turn it on if I see a problem, someone is about to pass, a vehicle or big truck on the shoulder, or for any reason that might warrant it. I use it for fun sometimes to chat and eat up time but it IS a safety item to me. Even when I am just "chatting" it is a help so I will not get bored, tired, or sleepy.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Safety is(or should be)the primary concern of any driver behind the wheel. Like Aftershock stated, double checking things like the mirrors and knowing what is going on around, behind, and ahead is vital. The thought that a driver would blindly change lanes JUST because he(or she) was flashed or told it was ok on the CB is scary. PLEASE, anyone reading this, never assume. This will certainly end up being dangerous. All of us have to practice defensive driving. -

Well I only have 24 years behind the wheel, but I never heard of not using my "flash to pass switch"(located on the turn signal handle) which is the brights (I think) during the day. Never use the brights at night though.

I flash every driver who flashes me. I appreciate them doing it to me. There are always going to be those cowboys out there who think they are king of the road.

I flash my lights during the day and flick them on and off at night. I do this to every truck I see. A lot of drivers don't flash back or if I happen to pass them later on, they won't flash for me to come over. That's ok, I still flash them both ways in hopes that they catch on.

Amen to Buck and a Half. If I might add a paraphrased quote,"Forgive them LORD, they don't have a clue". I always have and will flash and thank. I didn't realize that you couldn't turn your lights out on the newer rigs. Later... Blink-Blink

What I notice is a cultural difference. The container trucks, trash trucks, and trash transfers are mainly driven by Hispanic drivers. I cut-off my head lights (blink, blink) for them and never have ever received a tail-light (blink, blink) thank you. Maybe it's not done in Mexico. -
