FedEx is actually doing union voting at a few terminals right now and it's very likely those terminals are going to go union. The teamsters are pushing for FedEx to become union and it's very likely a year from now FedEx will be union.

Being compensated well for doing something well is not greed. In a free market economy you are paid what the market will allow for which is driven by supply and demand. The supply of people with little to no experience is high and they are working for the swifts of the trucking world. The supply of 20-40 year safe drivers is low and they are working for the premier carriers, they are being paid well for the value they provide their employer. You are only paid what you are worth. I am paid $1.21 a loaded mile and with 27 accident free years of professional driving, I am worth every cent. You can work for 30 cents a mile if you choose to, but I won't. I won't debate you in the Political arena due to my disdain for politics and our totally different perspective on what we each are worth.RubyEagle Thanks this.

Congratulations Banker, with 27 accident free years you certainly do deserve $1.21/mile and then some! I'm sorry to hear about your disdain for politics, so I'll let it go at that. Drive safe!

After many years of listening to G. Gordon Liddy and others I found my day was less stressful listening to pure Jazz or country, instead of shows that were political. I think that when two people with different view points such as the two of us, have a respectful conversation, we can often both learn something from one another. Even if it is only why the other person feels the way they do. It would be a boring world if we all felt the same way. I hope that you have a long, safe, prosperous career in trucking and that it provides the same great quality of life for your family that it has provided for my family. After 27 years of trucking I can still say that I wouldn't want to earn my living doing anything else, but I still want to be paid well doing it. Just call me greedy!! Guilty as charged.Derailed Thanks this.

I pretty much have started to feel the same way about the topic. I've pretty much come to the conclusion both parties equally suck

Federal law allows you to opt out of any political donations. Somebody help me with this one. I forgot what they call that at the hall.

It popped into my head after I typed the last response. It's called "Drive" fund. It's pretty much voluntary. I honestly could care less about all the politics. I just like all the bennies for the 2 hours pay. You can't beat a pension with healthcare. You don't get that at 99% of the non union carriers. A 401k has to have $1 million in it before you can draw the same as the pension at UPS for 30 years.
already gone Thanks this. -
politics..... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
-
I used to have that attitude as well, but then I had a wakeup call and realized that politics play a critical role in our everyday lives and the freedoms we either have or don't have... and many of those freedoms are slowly being taken away from us by a growing movement that includes many of the big bosses in today's labor unions. If you don't participate in politics, then just remember you have no right to complain as your rights are being taken away from you.

That's been tried before; they just close the newly unionized terminal then open a new one out of the hiring area for those union drivers. FedEx pilots started talking union also until they realized they already make tons more money annually than unionized UPS pilots.
