    I was asked to start a thread on this and dock it, electronic copies of permits are the way of the future. Lets try to keep this thread 100% on topic so that members can use it as a quick reference without having to sort thru unneeded posts.

    Thanks to Heavy Hammer for the idea.

    These are the states I deal with the most and know off the top of my head...it is by no means complete,

    Illinois
    , copied from Form OPER 993;
    CONDITIONS THAT APPLY: The conditions and restrictions that apply will be specified by a code letter and number and identified as OPER 993 provisions. Form OPER 993 is available from IDOT or online at www.illinoistruckpermits.com and must be carried in the vehicle, in written or electronic form, to which the permit applies. In case of conflict, the precedence shall be (1) condition stated in detail in the short form permit, (2) those stated under Provision “C”, (3) those stated under Provision “B”, and (4) those stated under Provision “A”.

    Iowa, I have shown the DOT my permit on my iPad, they have never said anything one way or the other.
    Minnesota, will accept electronic version as long as it is legible. That is why they changed their permits a couple of years ago to no longer require a signature.
    North Dakota, as previously stated, now accepts electronic versions.
    South Dakota, it depends on who you get, make sure you can print it in your truck...most of the DOT have just looked at my permit on the iPad, but a few of the "older" guys say it has to be printed...I hauled 16 loads through with electronic until this last one last week, older guy at the POE, he printed it for me, while the younger guy behind him just smiled and shook his head. The younger guy accepted the iPad version two weeks earlier, and I know he will again, BUT...make sure you can print it just in case.
    Kentucky, they accepted my iPad version in mid Dec, I had it printed in case they didn't. I didn't ask, he didn't mention anything?

    Electronic permits are definitely the way things are trending, especially when states are stating it in bold lettering on their conditions sheets. I think this is a thread that should be "docked" so that we can compile an up to date full listing of all states. It could be a valuable resource.

    Iowa wrote Danny a ticket last year for showing a DOT cop his permit on a laptop (IIRC). He hadn't stopped to print it off, but had downloaded it, when he got pulled over after crossing in from Il on 80.
    Just FYI

    Thanks for that info on Iowa Martin, like I said I showed it that way and he never said anything one way or the other. Maybe I got lucky...but I can print it immediately wirelessly from my device in the truck if needed.

    As of February 7, 2014;

    Nevada states in the email that the PDF permit is attached to:
    Your permit and its conditions are attached.
    The permittee or his direct representative (not a permit service provider) must print and sign the permit to activate it.
    The driver must carry this permit and all condition pages at all times. Electronic copies of permits are not authorized in Nevada at this time. (Note; this is in the email, NOT stated on the permit!)

    Montana permit requires the drivers signature, so that rules out electronic permits.

    Idaho permit requires the drivers signature, so that rules out electronic permits.

    As of now OS/OW permits in Arizona require a signature (not necessarily the driver but a representative of the company) I will ask if it can be signed then emailed to the driver. Im not hopeful because last week I was told that patrol cars do not have an interface with OS/OW so they won't accept it. I'll get them thinking about it at least.

    Really? The guy on 35 was going to write me ticket for not originally printing the useless map page. He "suggested" I look in my truck to see if I had left it there - wink wink. I had. To print it out for him
