I'm a complete newbie, but am starting school on August 16th. My school recruiter is pushing me towards TMC, but I want to apply to at least 5 quality companies. McElroy seems to have a good rep so they will make my short list, but does anyone have any other companies they might suggest? I live in Raleigh, North Carolina and am looking for solid miles, a little home time and decent pay. Not expecting the world, just want solid individuals to work with. Thanks in advance for any and all information.

TMC has the best training hands down. They pay better then any other starting company I know of if you choose thier % pay option. (others have higher per mile, but the % option on tmc is way hire then per mile.) TMC;s new trucks have bunk heaters and inverters. 9 speed trans with cummins

That being said, Maverick isnt a bad company. They drive automatic cascadias. They run direct 10 ultrashift (auto) trans with Detroits. Their pay per mile is decent, although not quite as high as TMC % package.

Boyd brothers is another to consider. Dont know much about um, but their drivers seem happy.

Weastern express drivers dont know how to properly secure thier load, so im guessing they arnt trained properly.

There are others but none take trainees. I'm not sure Boyd does.

I'm too biased on this, so don't weigh my input too heavily.

TMC: good training, nice trucks, lots of pride. 13 and 9 speeds, cats and cummins engines, switching to all cummins and 9 speeds. Getting rid of 379's for the 579's. Still very sharp rigs, just less power and gears.
Melton: nice, light rigs, APU's. Tarp a lot of freight
Maverick: automatic trannys, good upkeep on freightshakers

Paul, Keim, Jordan...I know nothing, but all these companies haul about the same freight, it's just he training, trucks, and system that are different.

Sweet, then I'm in!! I currently work a lock-up block in mental health at a maximum security prison. Nothing says no sissies like having an inmate assault you. Doesn't make me the toughest, but you can't be afraid, nor lazy.
