Customers come and go lately I feel I have lost more than I have got Jordan has killed two of my customers I'm talking Houston to Fort Wayne,in I was getting $3,800 last month two weeks ago I was ask why I have been charging so much? What? Same load thru Jordan $2,800 than my biggest customer I run into Baton Rouge and New Orleans atleast three times a week Jordan told them $720-$940 on a lane I get $1,000-$1,400.

It has not been good last two weeks I feel like I'm being ran over by large carriers!

it also includes broker fees, someone to find loads etc. Broker fees are 8%ish right there.

Also, most owner opps don't average 2/mile unless they are pretty successful.

If you do a Canada load it norm says the true rate for customs. Some shippers put the rate on the BOL. But, who cares what the true rate is. It comes down to, are you willing to haul the freight at the rate offered to you. If someone else makes money off the top, who cares as long as you still make a decent rate.

That's because 75% of them don't keep track of there numbers...I have been telling a friend of mine he is loosing his rear and the guy has added two trucks this year he is moving loads at $2.75/loaded mile or $225 minimum and driving back to reload some loads go 35miles some go 300miles after talking to him last night he said after fuel and paying a driver he makes $1,100 per truck a week. He has not had any major brake downs so far he is only been paying fuel insurance and driver pay and working M-F.

I can't get thru his head that running at $2.75/mi x 300 miles is $825 now he don't haul loads back he just heads back to move another one so that cuts the rate in half $2.75 cut is $1.37/mi but some days he does loads that go 40 miles and can move five a day at $225 and can make $1,125 that day per truck. You just can't tell some people anything I asked him a simple question how many miles you drive a week and how much money do you bring in he said that don't matter I still make $1,100 per truck and I'm going to buy more trucks.

Usually guys on dedicated runs they will work for nothing. Or if you want some really cheap labor/equipment tell drivers you will get them home nightly or regularly. For ones running irregular if you don't keep up with your numbers you won't ever see any trends. I have a ledger with 3 years of data every single spot market load I've hauled. This is hand written and takes about 2 minutes of my time every day to fill out info then about 5 minutes at the end of the month to summarize. That is useful trends info and only gets better as the years go by.

im guessing hes a local guy? tell him to put " oilfield transport services " sticker somewhere on his truck, I heard when you do that you automatically start making the big coin & will never haul cheap again

Ironic, was talkin to a friend last week. Our thoughts, we kinda picked up from the 2008-09 recession via the gas and oil boom. Now it's over n things are slowing down again. Fox news money man Charles Paine exuded the same sentiments today. Jordan's lost freight so they're out looking to replace it. Here comes the rate cutting. We better all Hang on...
