    Resurrecting this thread...
I enjoyed doing linehaul LTL for Carter & Sons (Tulsa) (even though they ran those old ugly White/GMCs with no power steering) before Old Dominion bought them out. Overnite before UPS bought them (Except for the man-hater running the Tulsa terminal), My mom was working for Overnite in Hagerstown, Md the same time I was working for them in Tulsa. TTI (Tulsa) was ok as long as I ran the old #106 truck, instead of those POS Freightliners with the Mercedes motors. I kind of miss driving Leon Spark's (Tahlequah) old single axle Freightshaker cabover, hauling plants out of Tri-B and Park Hill nursery. I enjoyed driving for Ray Campbell (Tahlequah) back in the day.

The companies I'm glad to get away from and/or no longer in business: Oklahoma Southern Transportation (Tahlequah), Western Flyer (OKC) I used to drive #102 an '02 W900L ungoverned 115 mph across NM, AZ and CA regularly (F*** Randy and Rodney Timms).

I worked for Todd Thompson (Coweta, Ok) back when he had 2 trucks, Watch Me Go and 101, pulling a hopper, then later hauling frac sand. That was a good job. I miss the good days.

    I miss having my own trucks, '77 Int'l Transtar w/ 6-71, direct 10, 3.90, 62 mph; '97 379 550hp kitty, 15 speed, 3.70, 102 mph; '87 K100, 400 BCIII, 9-speed, 3.55, 87mph. Been seriously considering buying another.
I like hauling cattle, I see the comraderie (sp?) there that used to exist with the freight haulers.

Growing up in north Jersey it was a blast to see these monsters roam around.

Living in Mack country all you would see fill up the air around traffic intersections and highways were huge balls of soot so I can post dozens of Mack fleets, but these guys I remember the most because they would always deliver across the street from my school. I would just stand there at recess looking at it and crack a smile when I would hear it turn on and drive away.

Then when I moved to Orlando, I remember seeing these bad boys all lit up.

Fleets had so much pride back then, its a shame that I have to come into this industry at a time where the passion and the pay is no longer what it was years ago. Even todays fleet trucks lack the soul and character that those machines of the past had. They are all just cookie cutter molds with wheels.

Well when Mr. Cochran that founded Overnite sold out his share of the company, 5 years to the day, he opened up a company named Highway Express, right down there in Richmond, VA across the street from his old Overnite terminal!'

We drivers north of Richmond had day cabs, only a few had sleepers, and those were cabovers. Got a good weekly paycheck could run at least 3300 miles a week, MASS to Richmond, and our specific runs were some of his old customers, like the cigs, and alcohol companies! The we added the old Circuit City electronics. Mr. Cochran literally had an open door policy and would talk your ears off. He liked his drivers.

I remember Carreta, right there on Rte 17 in NJ. One tough outfit to get on with too as I remember those guys. One day went by, they had trucks/trailers in the yard, a month maybe later(??), all were gone and closed up. I never even heard that they were closing, just gone one day.

How about Mural Transport...they ripped off a lot of drivers. The truck titles mysteriously "disappeared."

New Century out of Westampton NJ. I was there for over 6 years and was going to do 4 more and then hang it up. The pay was good as was home time and I got to go where I wanted.

Those were some nice trucks. Drove a KW cabover like in the top picture in the 80's - a good solid machine.
