Hi,
I just got my letter with the fines we have to pay for 1 driver who did not show his 30 minute rest period in his log book. He did not exceed his hours of service he just failed to mark it in his log book.
the fine is over 4000.00 per each occurence. My question is have any of you had any luck trying to have something like this reduced. I don't have an issue paying for one fine of 4000.00 but triple that for the same mnistake??? Thats over 12K
Please help!
driver made mistake in log book! 3 times!!!

My God. Are those the only violations you have gotten? What is your safety record like? Are you a new carrier?
-
Wow, I wish I could help. I know in Fl you can contest fines after you pay them and general rule of thumb is that you get at least 50% back. That doesnt bode well with a $12k fine,.. ouch.
I know I got popped for the 30 min rule. I logged it,.. but I was ignorantly under the assumption that I only had to log it once per day,.. so I knocked it out after I fueled, which that particular time was 2 hours into my 11. Well, I failed to log a second break after 8 hours. I was PO'd when he wrote me up for that, as I would have had a perfect inspection otherwise. Learned my lesson.
My only question is that after 4 times,.. man that has got to hurt both of your csa scores. I know my carrier was as frustrated with me as I was when we saw how many points it came with. A DUI was less points.
Hopefully someone here can come up with a solution for you.

If that's the fine from a compliance review you can get reduced quite a bit.Denisemorgan Thanks this.

4000 for not logging a 30 min. break? OMG. I had no idea it was that much! Riduculous!

How long before they start selling insurance for simple logbook violations? .....

I hope the OP comes up with more information about the overall picture..........I am NOT buying that a first-time offense carries that hefty of a fine ... she says "over 4k each".......somthin in the milk isn't white.....

The Government loves it when people get overwhelmed by high fines and they usually get away with it. $4000 for a logbook fine is a gross violation of the 8th amendment. Take it to court.
Prohibits excessive fines and excessive bail, as well as cruel and unusual punishment.
