E-logs. Better to log off and drive. Or log on and take a HOS violation?

I have logged off a few times for a few simple reasons , either got stuck in a accident mess , or I was on my break and bobtailed somewhere to get some food . Why would I want to use drive time to go get something to eat when I am technically off duty ? I dont have a spot where I can go "off duty driveing" so thats the next easiest thing to do.

Wrong ? Maybe it is , but then again I dont have any log violations. :biggrin_25513:

Wow... I feel completely ashamed of myself... I am just not such a dedicater tool for my company... I am just not willing to chance getting a ticket, hefty fine and marks on my CDL to get a load delivered for them... If I cant do a load legally and safely then they either need to reschedule it or give it to someone else...

One of the drivers on the account I was on told me all these cool tricks to cheat the qualcomm... well, eventually he got called I to logs and warned about it... well, he was running out of hours and pulled one of the tricks.. got called in and fired... then we got a message from our dispatcher which said that any driver messing with or even suspected of will be called into safety and logs and subject to termination...

I was worried, because the qualcomm in my truck was fickle and would reset itself at random.. so, my dispatcher had me routed to the shop and a new one was put in....

Anyway as I said... I am just not as dedicated as to run illegal just to deliver a load for my company...

With these e logs I have found you can move about 2 blocks from where you log out if your on your break, as long as you dont move to fast. Also it can take a real time satelite photo of your truck that can pinpoint if you are backed to the dock or across the parking lot.:biggrin_2558:

I think the OP has a legitimate question. I've been out of the loop a long time, and I have had a job with e-logs, but it was a local job, so there was never any issue about making it back, but let's say, you deliver to a place an hour from home on a Friday afternoon, while delivering, you run out of hours, what, are you supposed to spend the weekend in your truck? Rent a car to get home? I'd say cram it ma'am, I'm going home.

I totally agree with Pahrump. Run legal. Your question, which is the worst penalty? Bad question. All violations are bad - for you. Besides, Yuban, why would you post something like this in a public forum? If you're going to find a way to game the system, keep it to yourself. Advice from an old dog. With respect, of course, PattyJ.

LMAO you sure are making a big jump about how i am a company kiss a,z,z, lol. some one asked about cheats on e logs and i stated it is doable. i see no reason to post on a forum how to bypass a system. we have used two different e- logs at our shop and depending on the settings the company uses, it will determine what you can get away with. which means you have to not be a tool and willing to take some lumps to figure it out.

as for your remark about running illegal that is your choice tell the boss man to f off if they ever try to force you. if you decide to do it make sure there is a big pay off. like, how about i run 2 hours illegal and you have to give me a day off with pay or you have to pay me an extra 8 hours of pay, make it worth your time and risk after all it is the company's hot load not yours.

depends on which system they use and what settings the company uses.

Arkansas did not like my paper logs and hand written bills..I had stopped in OK made hand written bills and backed up my log book..Cop asked for my fuel receipts,,told him I mailed them in the night before,,asked for a Cat scale receipt told him I weighed free on the shippers scale..After that I used my computer to make bills..Even put a nice picture of vegetables at the top of the bills

Oh always daily throw out your trash,,cop looked thru my trash trying to find any other kind of receipts.

Ark cops try to scare drivers with the "you are overweight" you know you are not and tell the jerk so he then tells you "if you have a cat scale ticket to prove you are not I'll let you go" After you show your legal cat scale ticket he then asks for your log book to check the date and location..
